Dear akaj88, already the fertilizers price of phosphate and potash were increased very steeply more or less to double the old prices. Gradually Govt has withdrawn subsidies on fertilizers. Now the price of urea is also increased. I think there would be nothing to speak subsidy on fertilizers

beyond a limit because if GoI does as logically it should and says XYZ $ is the Subsidy for Fertilizer Coz who use domestic Gas, ABC $ for power Cos using Domestic Gas, so on and so forth, That in itself will rationalize prices without adding undue burden on subsidy bill which can come as a result

And there`s the political problem of austerity. Spending lesser means cutting government employee salaries, cutting farmer subsidies like fertilizers, reducing the wages paid in the NREGA scheme or otherwise spending lesser on infrastructure. All these solutions have political problems
