We finally have a semiconductor policy. But global giants like Intel and AMD have decided to give India a miss. Hector Ruiz, Chairman of the Board and CEO of AMD said that that the semiconductor industry is not high enough in the list of the Indian government 's priorities.

Intel's Chairman Craig Barrett says he is running out of patience and wants the government to announce the Semi-conductor Policy by the end of this year. CNBC-TV18 learns the government may not disapooint Barrett and the policy could ne inked before the new year.

SemIndia, the consortium behind India's first chip making plant has brought in a strategic partner. Under its agreement with IT company Flextronics, SemIndia will provide chips for Flextronics' electronic products in India. The government of India and the Andhra government will also hold a minority stake.
