State Bank of India Q4 net falls 19%; provisions drag

State Bank of India's fourth quarter net profit fell 19% to Rs 3,300 crore on higher provisions and marginal other income growth. SBI shares tanked 6 percent. However, the bank did well on loan recoveries and looks promising in its future earnings.

With a dip in net income to Rs 180 crore as against Rs 214 crore in the previous quarter, SREI Infrastructure Finance says that the year gone by was the worst for the infrastructure sector. The company had to make addtional provisions for CDR cases in Q4.

Public sector banks (PSB) are estimated to raise Rs 9.60 lakh crore in 10 years period ending March 2021 assuming loan growth of 20 percent, said a report by consultancy firm KPMG.
City Union Bank PAT up 15%, sees healthy core income growth

City Union Bank core has seen good growth in core income this quarter. The gross NPA has come down from 1.23 percent to 1.13 percent, while the gross number has come down from Rs 178.74 crore to Rs 173.10 crore.

Telecommunications, which contributes around 3 percent of GDP, has greatly contributed to accelerated economic and social growth in the country. The sector has now grown to a total subscriber base of 893.15mn in January 2013 supported by huge investments in active and passive infrastructure which are required for the telecom sector, says CARE.
