The deduction for tax available for healthcare is currently Rs. 15,000, and can be increased to Rs. 50,000 given the increase in medical expenses over the years. Other allowances such as food, travel, conveyance, etc. can also be increased to give some room to salaried individuals.

Even though there have been regular changes, certain allowances are still to be looked into. These allowances have been introduced long time back in the Act but with the passage of time and increase in cost indexation rate these are yet the exemption limit of such allowances seems to be insignificant to huge taxpayers.

it mandatory for taxpayers to use ITR-2 if theirexempt income exceeded Rs 5,000a year. This rule is open to a lot ofinterpretations. Going by thedefinition, exempt income wouldinclude the allowances for houserent, leave travel, medical andtransport. So, most salaried taxpayers would have to use ITR-2instead

can do this by checking your tax credit statement. Also know as the Form 26AS, it has details of the tax paid by an individual. Any TDS linked to your PAN or self assessment tax paid by you during the year will reflect in this form. If you are a salaried taxpayer, you need to match the TDS details
