While getting the Finance Bill passed in the Lok Sabha, Jaitley articulated a lower-tax orientation and rubbished Leftist criticism that the tax concessions to business needed to be withdrawn.

Whatever the short-term benefits of voting against Israel, the long-term consequences are going to be negative. While there is no doubt that there are human rights issues are involved, the UNHCR vote was purely political in nature. It had more brutal human rights violators backing it than genuine human rights defenders.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Markandey Katju let it all hang out by claiming that three former chief justices of India (CJIs) RC Lahoti, YK Sabharwal and KG Balakrishnan may have had a hand in confirming and then promoting a corrupt judge in Tamil Nadu.

Justice Katju, who is currently chairman of the Press Council, has levelled allegations that cannot but show the higher judiciary in poor light. The only interpretation one can give to his claims is that the CJI of 2004 was willing to bow to political pressure to keep the UPA in power.

Godse put bullets into the Mahatma because he was allegedly too pro-Muslim and anti-Hindu; Roy wants to erase the name of Gandhi from every institution that currently carries it because, she says, Gandhi was an out-and-out casteist.

There are three reasons why India seeks strong ties with the Arab Muslim world despite the fact that most of them are ruled by despots and are almost never seen on our side on issues like Kashmir: our own domestic Muslim constituency, the large Indian diaspora in the Gulf, and our dependence on West Asian oil.

The BJPs current strength in the suspended Delhi assembly is 28 the same as AAP. The Congress has eight, with the Shiromani Akali Dal, Janata Dal (United) and independents having one each.

Vaidik's crime is not that he met Saeed and told him a few things about Modi. I would have been happy to meet up Saeed myself to tell him a few educative tales from the Panchatantra or point out the stupidity of his Islamism and the wisdom of India's pluralism.

Let's dispose of the argument that this law is being made for one man. If you want to quibble, we should say two men both Misra and Modi can be considered interested parties to this. But beyond the quibble, is it really about humouring the whims of one man or even two men?

Outlays have a tendency to not get used because implementation is lackadaisical and the necessary speed and buy-ins from various stakeholders are missing before outlays are announced. Finance ministers can well throw up their hands and point out that they money is there, but someone didn't use it. But this is a copout.

? According to Firstpost Editor-in-chief R Jagannathan, there`s nothing surprising about the polls and they are confirming the pre-poll trends. He also says that one can no longer deny that there is definitely a Modi wave given that the party is expected to get one third of the vote share in the country
