Thanks to the widely reported trend of communal polarisation, it is assumed that the BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) will be the main beneficiaries from this. The high turnouts in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh polls enthused both parties, with the BJP believing that it has got a lot of the Hindu vote and the SP the Muslim one.

The book, among other things, says that Singh allowed Sonia Gandhi to become the sole power centre, especially in UPA-2, thus effectively emasculating Singhs office. He also hinted that some PMO files may have been discussed with Sonia before they landed up the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) something that has been hotly denied by the PMO.

If these projections are wrong, majorly wrong, the NDA cannot be counting its chickens just yet. The Congress party has been repeatedly pointing out that opinion polls have been wrong in the past, and so they will be this time.

The problem with these so-called intellectuals is that they are often charlatans masquerading as public-spirited individuals. An intellectual, by definition, should be someone who thinks clearly before he or she talks. An intellectual should have an understanding of nuance and shades of grey.

In Bihar, it has an unassailable leader in Sushil Modi. If the BJP comes to power in the state assembly, he will be Chief Minister, no doubt.

What nobody is talking about, except the BJP, which too is talking about it only peripherally is the macroeconomy, defence, foreign affairs, and devolution of power.

The NDTV opinion poll establishes the BJP as the central pivot around which Indian politics will revolve in the medium term.

So what is Baru telling us that is different from what we already knew? Actually, there are quite a few reasons why the story needed telling by an insider.

Western Uttar Pradesh, which went to the polls April 10, has already set the tone, with Muslims voting en bloc against the BJP and the Jats and other communities veering towards BJP. Early reports say the SP and the BJP are in No 1 and No 2 positions in most seats, with BSP and Congress facing the pressure.

What politicians really mean when they talk of a communication gap is this: the people are too dumb to understand our holy intentions. Kejriwal indirectly says as much: "We thought that people would understand our reasons on their own. But it did not happen." Now he has to explain it to those dimwits who want to vote for Modi.

players backed by the Congress. At this point and going by current predictions, even a tally of 140 seats seems wildly optimistic, but as pointed out by Firstpost editor R Jagannathan, the findings of poll surveys often don`t translate to what happens on the ground at the polling booth, and an increase

editor R Jagannathan pointed out, all the drama surrounding tickets has hidden an important fact: The BJP is fundamentally changing. He says, "What all the noise hides is the fundamental changes that have been internalised by the BJP in its current run for power. Regardless of whether it wins or loses

(unless the Congress springs a surprise). But it was always a mystery how Modi would respond to Kejriwal’s challenge. He never needed to do that earlier as Kejriwal too had strategically avoided direct attacks on Modi, till he resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Some like R Jagannathan thought
