New Pension Scheme (NPS) is a pension scheme launched by Government of India (in effect from 1st April, 2009) and is a defined contribution based pension scheme.

As readers are already aware that there are two types of NPS accounts Tier I & II. Tier I account is mandatory whereas Tier II account is optional. Thus only Tier I account is eligible for tax benefits and is in true sense the core of the National Pension System.

Bank of India has posted a net profit of Rs 491 crore, far below street expectations. A CNBC-TV18 poll had pegged the figure at Rs 603 crore. This is on account of a jump in provisioning against NPs for the quarter, says Alok Kumar, chairman and nmanaging director, Bank of India.
