Suzlon secures 218 MW order in Brazil

Suzlon Energia Elica do Brasil Ltda. subsidiary of Suzlon Energy Limited, the worlds third* leading wind turbine maker has won an order from Martifer Renovveis Gerao de Energia e Participaes S.A. to set up, operate and maintain a 218 MW (megawatt) project across the states of Cear and Rio Grande do Norte, in Brazil.

Suzlon Energy is close to raising Rs 600 crore to fund the REpower buy from Martifer, reports CNBC-TV18, quoting The Economic Times. The paper reports that the money will be raised from private equity investors.

It's a classic case of once bitten twice shy for Suzlon Energy. It says all future discussions regarding capital structure will be taken with more caution. The company managed to raise 87 million euros through inter-corporate deposits from promoters who sold a 4% stake in it. Promoters now want to go easy on fund raising.

Suzlon has put out a revised payment schedule. This looks like more helping for Martifer than Suzlon because Suzlon had the window to go ahead and repay Martifer till May. The 91% will be consolidated only when the payment schedule is finished.

Earlier, the plan was that REpower stake that Suzlon was buying from Martifer, which is close to Rs 1,800 crore, will be done by way of debt. They have been scouting the markets for the past one month trying to get good rates. Suzlon has pretty much restructured most of its deal, which last year was at very attractive rates of close to 9%.
