Equity funds managed to end with positive returns inspite of markets ending on a flat note. The BSE benchmark fell 4.48 points, to close at 16,217.82 while NSE fell 1 point to close at 4,920.40.

As the markets closed higher, all equity and balanced schemes registered positive returns with only few losers in either category. Meanwhile debt funds too were seen delivering good performance.

Equity and Balanced funds delivered a decent performance amid volatile markets. In the debt space both Long term and Short term continue to excel recording few decline.

State Bank of India (SBI) rallied as much as 4% intraday on Friday to touch a high of Rs 1,922.80 after excellent performance in quarterly numbers. The bank reported a higher than expected profit after tax of 4,050 crore for the fourth quarter of financial year 2011-12 due to improvement in asset quality.

As market fell and recorded its lowest in four months, all equities including the sectoral categories and Balanced funds succumb under market pressure recording no gainers. Meanwhile Debt funds recorded good performance with just few declines.
