There is no major trigger for the bond market today. Over the next few weeks, yields may come down on reduction in govt borrowing program. The range for the 10-year yield is seen between 7.2-7.3%, says Krishnan Sitaram of CRISIL.

Krishnan Sitaram, Head of Fund Services and Fixed Income, CRISIL, said, The 10-year G-sec had gone up when the government, a couple weeks ago, had announced an enhanced borrowing programme. They have corrected after that, he said. He expected the 10-year G-sec at 5.2-5.5%.

The inflation for week ended December 13 has come in at 6.61% as against 6.84% (WoW). Saugata Bhattacharya, Economist, Axis Bank feels that the current inflation number was a little bit higher than expectations. He sees 100 bps cut in repo rate in first half of 2009. Krishnan Sitaram of Crisil expects 50 bps cut in repo and reverse repo rates.

Inflation has come in at 10.68 for the week ended October 18 as against as against 11.07% week-on-week. Mridul Saggar, Chief Economist, Kotak Securities, said, Going forward from here, there could be a case for a further repo rate cut and we are factoring in a possibility of another 100 bps by March."

Inflation for the week-ended August 2 has come in at 12.44% as against 12.01%, reports CNBC-TV18. A CNBC-TV18 poll saw inflation rising to 12.15% for the week ended August 2.

Krishnan Sitaram, Head-Fund Services and Fixed Income, CRISIL, expects the Reserve Bank of India, or RBI, to raise rates at its July end Monetary policy meet. Given the articulated stance of RBI and looking at inflation numbers, we expect there could be a rate hike shortly, and it could come in at the July-end Monetary Policy.
