JSW Steel stocks have been down 9% in early morning trade. even now it's still down by about 6%. Sajjan Jindal said that there was a 5-10% erosion in the profit margins of JSW Steels over the last 3-4 months. This pressure on the margins was on account of input costs and devaluation of the rupee.

The earthquake in China has sent base metal prices soaring, and stocks like Hindalco and Nalco have seen huge gains. Metals have gained 3-5 % this week after the earthquake in China. Zinc has gained 7% and also seen support from African mine strike. Tin is trading at record highs above USD 25,000/tonne.

Arcelor Mittal has again delivered a strong set of numbers for this quarter. The companys CFO, Aditya Mittal said, We are seeing industrialisation occurring in Russia, China India and Brazil - there are around 2 billion people and clearly they are fuelling the demand for steel. The US economy remains weak but it does not affect us.

JSW Steel is to announce its Q4 FY08 results. According to CNBC-TV18 estimates its net sales are expected to go up 16.3% at Rs 2906.7 crore versus Rs 2498 crore (YoY).

SAIL and Tata Steel have decided to hold steel prices for next 2-3 months following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's request. JSW Steel has made a similar announcement. But this is going to hit firms like SAIL and JSW Steel hard as these firms dont have recourse to captive mines and raw material prices soar, a CNBC-TV18 analysis shows.
