SBI suggests RBI as single regulator for all home loans

The State Bank of India is of the view that Reserve Bank of India should be the regulator for all home loans sanctioned by banks and housing finance companies. A single regulator would help remove the regulatory arbitrage that existed between banks and HFCs.

Helped by a reclassification of priority sector lending guidelines wherein wherein bank finance to non-bank lenders no longer qualifies as PSL, banks were the most active ones in the securitisation market to meet targets as eligible loan receivables are classified as PSL, ICRA said.

ICICI Bank repatriated around Rs 400 crore capital from its wholly owned subsidiary in Canada. The bank can now use the same fund to expand its loans in India. However, it may be a marginal capital addition only.

Since last four quarters Bajaj Finance has been reducing its loan exposure to commercial segement including infra, equipments and vendor financing. It is now bottomed out. It will again start lending to this sector.
