The government is sitting at a surplus of over Rs 60,000 crore over budgetary estimate on tax collection and direct taxes. So isnt this the best time that P. Chidambaram can cut taxes. The tax authorities require the donee to substantiate and prove the genuineness of the gift, generally in case of gifts of large amounts, especially where the donor was a non-resident abroad.
