General insurance companies will now have complete control over pricing of fire, engineering and marine insurance products. IRDA has finalised January 1, 08 as the deadline to adopt the second phase of de-tarrifing. This has been done to keep a tab on the financial health of general insurers post de-tariffing.

Consumers across India can now hope to see the real benefits of lower pricing of motor and other insurance policies from January 2008. That is because the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, or Irda, has advanced the deadline for detariffing, reports CNBC-TV18.
