RComm, Reliance Power to move out of Nifty index

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remove two more Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group companies namely Reliance Communications and Reliance Power from its S&P CNX Nifty with effect from April 27, 2012. Earlier it had removed Reliance Capital.

Union Bank of India is trying to strengthen its recovery process for bad loans and aims to lower its gross NPA ratio to 3% as against 3.33% in Q3. Concern over asset quality is the main reason why UBI shares have underperformed the benchmark Nifty over the last year. Compared to a 4.4% drop in the index, UBI shares have fallen over 28%.

Consistent buying in metals, technology, auto, PSU stocks, and index heavyweight Reliance Industries helped the market to stay on the higher side. However, ICICI Bank, ONGC and L&T remained under pressure, falling 0.5-1%.

CRISIL Research has come out with its report on interest coverage. According to the research firm the interest coverage ratio of companies in the S&P CNX 500 Index (ex BFSI1 and public sector oil marketing companies, totaling to 420 companies) has dipped to a five-year low on account of high interest rates and a decline in operating profits.

The Sensex stalled its rally today with marginal fall as investors preferred minor profit booking. The index had gained 360 points on Thursday on global cues. Even Asian markets were under pressure. Metals, capital goods, oil & gas, telecom and PSU banking sectors were under pressure.
