The March IIP number was dismal, it contracted 3.5%. Consumer durables sector growth was up just 0.2%. Venugopal Dhoot, chairman and managing director of Videocon says, he is not surprised by consumer durables sector growth. He expects the sector to improve after June.

Venugopal Dhoot, chairman and managing director of Videocon Industries says that the consumer durables market has been expanding and the industry is expected to grow 15% this month. It appears that 75 bps cut in CRR might give some interest rate reduction and also money flow so that consumers will start buying on finance basis, he says.

The consumer durables output growth slowed to 4.6% in August, compared to a growth of 8.1% in the previous year. Venugopal Dhoot, chairman and managing director of Videocon expects the consumer durables industry to go up from November onwards. Videocon has increased prices in the last two months, he added.

Videocon has made a sizable oil and gas discovery in Brazil. Venugopal Dhoot, chairman and managing director expects the revenues of this field to begin from 2017. He told CNBC-TV18 in an interview that the profits would start coming in when the drilling begins.
