Strong earnings reports push the markets higher, the DOW gaining 131 points, the S&P 500 rising 12 points, while the Nasdaq added 14 points.

Late day selling on Wall Street saw the Dow Shed 92 points, the S&P 500 off by 10 points and the Nasdaq shed 13 points. After the close, sBays Q3 earnings and sales results topped estimates. The shares fell after the internet giant forecast Q4 earnings slightly below expectations.

Healthcare and financial stocks weighing on the major indexes on Monday; the Dow losing 14 pts, S&P 500 breaking at 6 day win streak to close down at 3 but the Nasdaq finished up fractionally thanks to Intel hitting a new 52 week high ahead of its earnings release.

Ahead of Alcoas earnings Wall Street was pretty much flat on the session, the Dow edging down about 5 points, S&P 500 inching up 3 points and the Nasdaq up nearly 7 points.

Optimism on the eve of the start of earnings season sending stocks higher for a second day in the US the Dow was up 131 points and the S&P gaining 14 points and the Nasdaq adding 35 points or nearly 2%.

The Federal Reserve leaves rates unchanged on Wednesday and markets initially cheer but then sell of hard at the close; the Dow closing down more than 80 points and the S&P 500 was off 10 points and the Nasdaq lost 14 points.
