Over a 100 days after Bangalore's new international airport became functional, the cry for a second airport refuses to die down. This time, the Karnataka government too feels that the city needs a second airport.

The government of Karnataka is hoping Narayan Murthy will be able to influence the center into reopening the old airport in Bangalore. The CM has personally requested him to take up the position of Chairman of Bengaluru International Airport, a position he had resigned in 2005.

The case is still going on. This is a marathon case that has been going on for the last four and a half hours. Both sides are arguing vehemently for their side. The BIAL said that it will be a violation of their contractual agreement if the state or union does decide to keep HAL open.

The Vacation Bench of the Karnataka High Court has asked the Union of India to furnish details of deliberations with Bangalore International Airport, or BIAL, reports CNBC-TV18. The deliberations were held last week on closure of HAL airport. The case will come up for hearing on May 22.

Bangalore's corporate bigwigs are not happy with the Civil Aviation Ministry's decision to close down HAL Airport when the new Bengaluru International Airport is opened on May 23. They say the city's citizens and business prospects will suffer if the old airport is shut down.
