Subir Gokaran, Chief Economist, CRISIL feels that the possibility of both CRR and repo rate hike is quite high. "One is that the inflation numbers are very much out of the comfort zone and even if oil prices were to come down to $110-120/bbl range, there is still some headroom there for prices to go up and inflation numbers to go up," he said.

Subir Gokaran, Chief Economist, CRISIL said that, if the inflation numbers this week are above 7% he is quite certain that theres going to be a repo rate hike. He also said that he forcasts the GDP growth rate at about 8% if the inflation continues to remain above the 7% mark.

Subir Gokaran, Chief Economist, Crisil, is very concerned about food prices. He feels RBI's Monetary Policy is not going to work here. "We have to look at more direct intervention, perhaps food subsidies or larger direct transfers to mitigate the impact of rising food prices," he told CNBC-TV18.

The Finance Minister today presented the Economic Survey 07-08. He said inflation for FY08 will be around 4.1% and emphasized that an average 9% GDP growth is achievable in the 11th Plan. Reacting to this, Yes Banks Shubhada Rao said she agrees with cautious optimism on the 9% GDP growth as almost everyone was looking at a sub-9% growth.

Second quarter's GDP growth stands at 8.9% versus 10.2% YoY. Q2 farm sector growth stands at 3.6% versus 2.9% YoY. Q2 manufacturing growth stands at 8.6% versus 12.7% YoY. Q2 industry growth stands at 9.1% versus 11.3% YoY. Q2 construction growth remains unchanged at 11.1% YoY. Q2 mining growth is up at 7.7% versus 3.9% YoY.
