Saraswat Bank ups interest on savings accounts to 6.14%

The country's largest urban cooperative Saraswat Bank today announced that it would offer 6% interest on savings deposits which will be payable every quarter and thus effectively paying 6.14% interest on an annual basis.

Saraswat Bank has sought the Reserve Bank of India's, or RBI, nod to acquire ailing South Indian Cooperative Bank, reports CNBC-TV18. It expects RBI nod in two months. The merger would provide relief to 67,000 depositors. South Indian Co-operative Bank has 13 branches in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad.

Sundaram BNP Paribas Mutual and Saraswat Co-op Bank have formed a strategic distribution alliance, whereby the latter will distribute the former's schemes across its 105 branches and 13 extension counters in major cities of the country.
