The story this week started with all the elements of a big drama, but ended as a bit of a farce. Broadcasters represented by the IBF had to backtrack on their plan to impose a 25% surcharge on all contracts starting October 16th.

Advertisers wanting to make their presence felt on TV shows will have to dish out more across programmes. The IBF, the industry body which represents almost all broadcast networks in the country, including Zee, Star, Sony and Times Now, has recommended an across-the-board input cost inflation surcharge of 25% from advertisers.
Star renegotiates ad rates with HLL, other advertisers

As the standoff between HLL and Star continues, the latter is expected to have losses amounting to Rs 18 crore per month. According to industry estimates, HLL is one of the biggest advertisers on the network with almost Rs 200 crore allocated to the channel network.

The country's largest advertiser Hindustan Lever is flexing its muscles and renegotiating not only ad rates but also the volume of ads on general entertainment channels like Star and Zee.

While viewers have been talking about the change of guard on KBC, STAR stalwarts Peter Mukerjea and Samir Nair have quit. Is this the beginning of the decline for STAR?
