Nokia, the world leader in mobile communications today announced that it has expanded its Research and Development (R&D) facility in Bangalore with the inauguration of a 210,000 square foot development centre at the Prestige Tech Park in the IT corridor. The Bangalore R&D centre, the largest Nokia site of its type in India, focuses on development work for software platforms, chipsets and high-end Nokia mobile devices. On the strength of its large talent pool of skilled researchers, India has become a global hub for innovation and Research and Development, and a leader in developing cutting edge solutions on both 2G and 3G platforms for mobile devices. The expansion of the Nokia R&D centre is a fitting testimony to Nokia's commitment to India and its confidence in the India talent pool. The centre will provide Indian developers the opportunity to work on telecommunications technologies that will change the way people live, work and play. The Nokia R&D centre in Bangalore was established in 2001 with the acquisition of Amber Networks. Over the last five years the R&D centre has played a pivotal role in the development of new applications and software platforms for product development. The software platform group works on development of parts of the base services for the platform, application frameworks, user interfaces and test tools. On the chipset side the work done in India is mainly in the area of ASIC design, hardware design, integration and verification, protocol software design and integration, speech and video codec design and integration. Nokia has two additional R&D centres in India, one each in Hyderabad and Mumbai. The centres are focused on next-generation packet-switched mobile technologies and communications solutions to enhance corporate productivity. Sourced From: Text 100 Public Relations Consultancy |
