Mauritius adopts Novatium’s $100 PC

Novatium Solutions, the leading providers of rich computing as a service, announced the launch of their $100 PC - the Nova netPC - in Mauritius. The netPC was formally launched by Dr. Rama Sithanen - Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mauritius. With this launch, Novatium takes the first global step to establish a strong presence in the international market. This launch has been made in collaboration with Mauritius Telecom, the leading broadband providers of Mauritius.

The demand for the netPC has already gained momentum in India because of its technical advancements and affordability. Novatium hopes to get the same response from the users in Mauritius as well. They have received a huge number requests for installations in the first week itself. Mauritius has a population of over 1,250,000 with 20,000 households and 12,000 educational institutions having PC installations. With a price tag of just MR 4300 for the netPC in Mauritius, Novatium plans to increase the PC penetration to 1,00,000 households by 2012.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Alok Singh, CEO Novatium said “This launch is very significant for Novatium as it is our first endeavor in the international market. Novatium has a mission of providing computing to the next billion. It has taken the world more than fifty years to reach the 1 billion mark for installed PCs but the next billion is likely to be crossed in less than a decade. The Nova netPC is a server driven device, a feature which makes it an obsolescence proof PC, as all the updates are carried out centrally through the server. It has the technical superiority to match up with all software advancements and yet it has the simplicity of an appliance. Coupled with its affordability, the netPC is a one-stop computing solution for almost everyone.
