Baxter has introduced Suprane® (Desflurane), a drug used to produce general anaesthesia, in the Indian markets. Suprane is one of the latest advancements in the field of inhalation anaesthesia. Amongst all the agents available for inhalation anaesthesia currently, Suprane® (Desflurane) is associated with the fastest recovery from effects of anesthesia and least post-anaesthesia complications. Suprane® (Desflurane) is also the safest inhalation anaesthetic agent as it has minimal potential to react with other chemicals in anaesthesia machine and has minimal adverse impact on organs like liver & kidneys. “The importance of Suprane® in current day anesthesia practice has particularly been observed in long duration surgeries and obese surgical patients. Suprane is ideally suited for practice of low-flow anaesthesia – a globally accepted technique that reduces cost and environmental pollution”, said Dr. Maddirala Subrahmanyam, consultant Axon Anaesthesia Associates, Hyderabad. Inhaled anesthetic agents such as Suprane® are administered to patients through vaporizer machines. With the launch of Suprane, Baxter has installed 10 such Vaporizers across reputed hospitals in Delhi like Safdarjung Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Escorts Heart Institute and also organized live demonstrations of Suprane® use in these hospitals. Further, the company plans to maximize the use of this new product in India and would focus on the marketing and distribution of it to various hospitals. “Suprane® is an extensively used inhaled anesthetic agent world-wide and is being marketed in over 60 countries across the world, including USA & Europe. With the introduction of Suprane® (Desflurane), we hope to see an up-gradation in the practice of inhalation anesthesia in India”, said Mr. Raman Gandotra, Director, Medication Delivery business of Baxter India at the launch.
