KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd, a leader in engineering solutions for the Semiconductor and Automotive Industry, has announced today that it is joining the Eclipse community as an Add-In Provider member. With this the company looks forward to broaden the development and deployment of the development tools base for its customers.

The use of Eclipse platform will reduce the development time of the software products by almost 40%. Eclipse Foundation is an independent not-for-profit consortium of software industry vendors. Many notable software tool vendors have embraced Eclipse platform as a future framework for their IDE (integrated development environment, a computer program that assists programmers to develop software).

This announcement indicates KPIT’s seriousness in becoming the first company to design development components in India. The Eclipse platform is slated to become the de facto standard of IDE tools (Integrated Development Environment, a computer program that assists programmers to develop software) development. KPIT has developed more than 20 plug-in components for the semiconductor industry based on the Eclipse platform. Semiconductor solutions contribute as much as 10% of KPIT’s total revenues as of now.

"We see this membership as a great opportunity for collaborating with the Eclipse community and as a major thrust in our journey of designing development tools for embedded developers worldwide. The Development Tools team within Semiconductor Solutions Group of our organization has already released Eclipse-based IDE for embedded developers targeted for a microcontroller family. We plan to use Eclipse in our future strategic products.” said Praveen Acharya, Vice-President, ATS-Semiconductor Solutions Group, KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd.
