The Sona Group today announced the promotion of Mr. Kiran Deshmukh to Deputy Managing Director of Sona Koyo Steerings Systems Ltd. He will be a member of the board of directors for Sona Koyo Steerings Systems Ltd.

Mr. Deshmukh served as the Chief Operating Officer of Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd for 5 years. He spearheaded the implementation of change management programs such as Toyota Production System, TQM, and TPM practices. Mr. Deshmukh also led the company to be the recipient of the prestigious Deming Prize in 2003 and the TPM Excellence Award in 2008. In 2006, The Indian Society of Quality awarded Mr. Deshmukh with the Ashoka Award for outstanding practice of quality management.

Mr. Deshmukh currently associated as a provost with the Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing Program, launched jointly by IIM (C), IIT (K), and IIT (M) in association with CII which aims to create visionary leaders for the Indian manufacturing. He has been a Member of CII's Manufacturing Competitiveness Sub-Committee, Managing Board of the SAE-India Northern Section, and the ACMA ACT Advisory Board. As a member of the ACT Advisory Board, he was involved in upgrading quality management practices of member SME companies of ACMA through its Cluster Program. He has presented a number of technical papers in seminars and conferences in the areas of Toyota Production System, JIT, Statistical Techniques, TPM and TQM. He also co-owns a number of patents in India and the US.

Mr. Kiran Deshmukh is a graduate in Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay). He has over 33 years of experience in automotive components manufacturing and has been with Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd. since its inception.
