MF NAVs close with positive returns as mkts gain

Equity diversified NAVs closed with positive returns as the markets ended with good gains amidst extreme volatility through the day on F&O expiry day for the month of June 2008. Advance:decline ratio of MF NAVs stood at 181:29. Buying interest has seen in late trade; the Nifty got back above 4300 mark. Biggest contributors were RIL, Infosys, HDFC, L&T, Wipro and ITC. IT, Oil & Gas, metal stocks gained while realty lost. The Sensex closed at 14,421.82, up 201.75 points or 1.42% after hitting an intraday high of 14,449.81 and low of 14,196.68. The Nifty scaled back to 4300 mark and finished at 4315.85, up 1.49% or 63.2 points. It has touched a high and low of 4324.75 and 4230.00, respectively.

All sectoral funds advanced. Balanced and tax saving funds also finished higher.

Among the equity diversified funds, the top gainers were Lotus India AGILE Fund (G) up 1.93%, Sundaram BNP Paribas Rural India Fund (G) up 1.66% and DWS Investment Opportunity Fund (G) up 1.45%. The top losers were JM Emerging Leaders Fund (G)  down  1.85%, JM Contra Fund (G)  down 1.76% and JM Small & Mid-Cap Fund - Regular Plan (G) down  1.59%.

Among the tax saving funds, the top gainers were  Lotus India AGILE Tax Fund (G)  up 1.66%,  DWS Tax Saving Fund (G)  up 1.50% and ABN AMRO Tax Advantage Plan (ELSS) (G)  up 1.48%. The top losers were Taurus Libra Tax Shield (G) down 0.80%, JM Tax Gain Fund (G)  down 0.71% and  ING Tax Saving Fund (G) down 0.44%.

Among the sector funds, the top gainers were  UTI Energy Fund (G) up 1.11%,  UTI MNC Fund (G)  up 0.96% and  Sundaram BNP Paribas Select Thematic Energy Opportunities Funds (G)  up 0.86%.  The  top losers were JM Telecom Sector Fund (G)  down  1.25% and Reliance Media & Entertainment Fund (G) down 1.02% and JM Basic Fund (G) down 0.66%.

Among the balanced funds, the top gainer were HDFC Balanced Fund (G) up 1.30% and Birla Sun Life Balance (G) up 1.18% and HDFC Childrens Gift Fund - Investment Plan  up 1.03%. The top losers were  Escorts Balanced Fund (G) down  0.62%, JM Balanced Fund (G)  down 0.39% and LIC MF Balanced Fund - C (G)  down 0.08%.
