Venture capital activity started in India roughly around 1996-1997 and it scaled new heights in 2000 primarily because of the success demonstrated by Information Technology (IT), Telecom and the Internet sectors, which allowed global business interactions to become much easier. But the dotcom bust and Nasdaq crash made VCs risk averse and slowed down activity until 2003.
