However, this was a soft year for Mutual Funds, MFs in terms of investment by MF houses in equity market. Net inflows by MFs was Rs 5408 crore versus 9062 crore in 2006. During the year, out of 12 months FIIs were net buyers for 10 months while MFs were net buyers only for 6 months.

For the year 2007, Foreign Institute Investors, FIIs showed huge interest in Indian equity market and made record flows of Rs 68057 crore. Prior to this Rs 47181 crore was second highest by FIIs in 2005. Due to this stupendous flow by FIIs, the BSE Sensex has given 47% returns and added 6000 points during the year (from 14,000 to 20,000 levels).
