Carnage in metal universe, index down over 7%

Metal universe was butchered in today’s trade. It was under serious pressure from opening of trade and was down 7.83% at 12201 levels. The carnage was lead by front-runner stocks, which included both ferrous and non-ferrous stocks.

JSW Steel was worst hit and was down over 11%, followed by big boys like Jindal Steel, Tata Steel that were down over 10% and 9% respectively. Other heavy weight stocks like Sterlite industries, SAIL, Sesa Goa, were down mre than 7%. F&O favorite and liquid stock Ispat Industries was down more than 5% almost down to Rs 20 level.

Despite of non-ferrous prices on higher side and steel prices has gone up stocks are showing contrarian moves. Metal index has lost more than 40% from its 52 week high which it made in January.
