It was an awful week for the Indian equity markets as the key indices; BSE Sensex and S&P CNX Nifty fell 6.2% and 5.9% respectively. All BSE sectoral indices have given negative returns.
The BSE capital goods index undeperformed the other sectoral indices; it was down nearly 13%. Power, metal, realty and bank were also down over 7%.
This week inflation numbers were like fuel added to fire. Market expectation was 6.52% but it came above expectations at 7%, which is also higher as compared to last week's 6.68%.
During this fall most of the “A” stocks have corrected a lot. Stocks like BHEL have tumbled nearly 22%, HCL Tech, Gujarat Mineral, Reliance Infra, Deccan Chronicle and Thermax have lost over 10%.
