Again the bulls marched over the bears and held complete grip over them. It hit a new milestone of 18000 on the back of huge liquidity, short covering in F&O and re-rating of various Sensex constituents.
This is the second fastest rally in history of Indian markets and took just eight trading sessions to move from 17,000 to 18,000. The Sensex had taken six trading sessions to cover the journey from 16k to 17k. Sensex rose nearly 48% since October 09, 2006.

Political concerns (possibility of mid term elections in Feb-March 2008) and some profit booking had tried to pull down markets below 17,500 in the last two days.
Again both Reliance Groups proved their strength and added 382 points to this 1000 points rally and this is around 38% to total contribution (Reliance Industries – 185 points, Reliance Energy – 104 points and Reliance Communications – 93 points)

IT major Infosys on the second spot with 152 points followed by private capital goods major, L&T with 103 points and Tata Steel with 42 points.
Top five stocks have contributed to 60% of rally from 17k to 18k. FIIs have invested nearly USD 3.54 billion in cash market and USD 62.5 million since September 26, 2007. Domestic Institutional Investors have put in USD 600 million.

This time ADAG's Reliance Energy and Reliance Communications have made it to the top in the list of stocks that comprises the Sensex in terms of percentage gainers. The stocks increased by nearly 50% and 20% respectively. Reliance Industries grew by 12%.
Amongst the top five companies in the list, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, BHEL gained 14.87%, 13.68% and 12.46% respectively.
