Markets give up day's gain: Metal, realty up

The markets were seen consolidating today after yesterday's big rally. The frontline indices ended in red but the broader markets continued to outperform closing in green. Selling pressure was seen in bank, power, oil & stocks. Select realty and metal stocks were attracting buying interest. Asian markets paused today after some good sessions of trade, and ended mixed.

The Sensex closed down 130.66 points or 0.81% at 16086.83, and the Nifty down 48.65 points or 1.00% at 4828.85.

About 1837 shares have advanced, 1159 shares declined, and 64 shares are unchanged.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices closed up 1.56% and 2.12% respectively. 

HDFC, Tata Steel, ITC, HDFC Bank, Idea Cellular and PNB were among the frontline gainers on the bourses. 

Nalco, HUL, ICICI Bank, Bharti AIrtel and Sun Pharma were among the top laggards on the indices.

The BSE consumer durable index closed up 1.55% or 58.52 points at 3830.75. Titan Industries Blue Star, Rajesh Exports and Videocon Industries were major gainers.

The BSE metal index ended up 1.01% or 137.54 points at 13,745.18.Guj NRE Coke, Shree Precoated, JindalStainless and Tata Steel surged.

The BSE realty index closed in green at 7,480.37, up 0.39% or 29.13 points. Puravankara Projects, Omaxe, IndiaBulls Real and Peninsula Land gained.

The BSE FMCG index closed up 0.36% or 8.12 points at 2,234.90. United Breweri, Dabur India, Britannia and ITC moved up.

The BSE IT, auto indices ended flat.

The BSE bankex closed down 0.83% or 69.54 points at 8301.80. ICICI Bank, Union Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda slipped.

The BSE oil & gas index ended down 0.82% or 84.24 points at 10224.56. Cairn India, Reliance Natural Resources, ONGC, Essar Oil and Gail India closed in red.

The BSE healthcare index closed in red at 3,737.51, down 0.75% or 28.25 points. Matrix, Lupin , Sunpharma, Cipla and Sterling Bio ended down.

The BSE capital goods index closed down 0.53% or 73.56 points at 13794.04. Astra Microwave,Kirloskar Bros,Kalpataru Power, BHEL and Suzlon Energy were major losers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 12456.88 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 57628.83 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6112.73 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 76198.44 crore.

Mkt trades flat amid volatility: Metal, realty up

The markets have shown some recovery and are off the day's low. The frontline indices are trading flat but the broader markets are holding out in the green. Selling pressure seen in bank, power, oil & stocks. Select realty and metal stocks are attracting buying interest.

At 2.48 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 27.21 points or 0.17% at 16190.28, and the Nifty down 31.00 points or 0.64% at 4846.50.

About 1857 shares have advanced, 1115 shares declined, and 88 shares are unchanged.

Bank, oil indices are down over 1% each; however, IT and metal indices are in green up over 0.5%.

HDFC, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Hindalco, HDFC Bank, GAIL, Sterlie Ind, ONGC are among the frontline gainers on the bourses. 

Nalco, JP Associates, HUL, Sun Pharma, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Bharti AIrtel are among the top laggards on the indices.

Mkt trades in red: Bank, oil, power stocks down; IT up

The markets have slipped in the red with selling pressure seen in bank, power, oil & stocks. However the broader markets have held out in the green with smallcap index up over 1%. Asian markets paused today after some good sessions of trade, and ended mixed. Select realty and metal stocks which were attracting buying have come off significantly.

At 2.02 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 199.94 points or 1.23% at 16017.55, and the Nifty down 49.95 points or 1.02% at 4827.55.

About 1750 shares have advanced, 1231 shares declined, and 79 shares are unchanged.

Bank, oil indices are down over 1% each; however, IT and metal indices are in green up over 0.5%.

Mkts trade weak: Metal, smallcap up; IT down

The markets are trading weak in a narrow range due to lack of buying interest in index pivotals. The markets are seeing mild consolidation after yesterday's run up. The smallcap index has outperformed the frontline indices and is up nearly 2%.

Midcaps have held up and the breadth is in the favour of the advances.

Asian markets paused today after some good sessions of trade, and ended mixed. Select realty and metal stocks are attracting buying. However, IT and bank stocks are trading weak.

Metals are the star performers with Tata Steel, SAIL, Sterline among the gainers. The metal index is up over 1.5%.

At 12.49 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 86.13 points or 0.53% at 16131.36, and the Nifty down 16.35 points or 0.34% at 4861.15.

About 1883 shares have advanced, 1090 shares declined, and 87 shares are unchanged.

Mkts lacklustre: HDFC, Tata Steel, Tata Power up

The markets are trading flat in anarrow band due to lack of buying interest in index pivotals. The markets are seeing mild consolidation after yesterday's run up. The smallcap index has outperformed the frontline indices and is up nearly 1%. Asian markets are also pausing after some good sessions of trade. Select realty and metal stocks are attracting buying. However, IT and bank stocks are trading weak.

At 11.25 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 47.35 points or 0.29% at 16264.84, and the Nifty down 0.70 points or 0.01% at 4876.80.

About 1952 shares have advanced, 1031 shares declined, and 77 shares are unchanged.

Hindalco, HDFC, GAIL, Sterlie Ind, ONGC are among the frontline gainers on the bourses.

Infosys, ICICI Bank, Bharti AIrtel and Sun Pharma are among the top laggards on the indices.

Momentum stocks like Ispat, Adlabs are back in action helping the midcap index to trade in green.

Markets flat in opening trade

The markets were flat in opening trade, have started the day with mild gains but turned into choppy mode. Auto, FMCG, metal and technology stocks have gained while power stocks lost ground.

At 9:56 am, the Sensex was up 10 points at 16,228 and the Nifty up 14 points at 4891. Market breadth was positive with 249 shares have advanced while 170 shares declined on the NSE.

Tata Steel, ABB, Sterlite, Tata Motors, HCL Tech, ITC, JP Associates, HUL, SBI and Rel Comm were gainers while Rel Energy, Power Grid, ICICI Bank, SAIL, Infosys and Tata Power were among the losers on the bourses.

Asian markets were trading mixed. HangSeng up 0.6%, Kospi was up 0.13%, Jakarta Composite up 0.93% and Shanghai Composite up 0.63% while Nikkei down 0.71%, Straits Times down 0.10% and Taiwan Weighted fell 0.31%.

US markets ended mixed amid weak economic reports and managed to recover from day’s low. The Dow declined 16.04 points, or 0.13%, to 12,532.60. The S&P added 3.11 points, or 0.23%, to 1,352.99; the Nasdaq gained 14.30 points, or 0.61%, to 2,341.05.
