The markets closed with smart gains after some initial hiccups in the morning. Sensex closed well above 18,000 and Nifty breached 5,300. Buying was seen in pharma, metal, oil stocks. Broader markets outperfromed frontline counters today. Select technology, realty and capital good stocks were under pressure. The outperformance came in despite most of the Asian markets ending lower.
Even on weekly basis Sensex has recovered over 1600 points from the lows and Nifty has recovered 500 points.
Sensex closed up 348.62 points or 1.96% at 18115.25, and the Nifty up 100.90 points or 1.94% at 5302.90.
About 2081 shares have advanced, 876 shares declined, and 62 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,592.08 up 2%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,621.13 up 2.2%.
The BSE Bankex was up 2.5% at 10,884.42. Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, Union Bank, Oriental Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1% at 16,418.30. Reliance Infra, Lakshmi Machine, L&T, Kalpataru Power, Thermax ended higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,768.59 up 2% Exide Industrie, Maruti Suzuki, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Punj Tractors closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 16,167.16 up 3.5%. SAIL, Shree Precoated, Tata Steel, NALCO closed higher.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,208.44 up 2%. United Spirits, United Brewerie, Marico, ITC, Britannia closed higher.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 11,269.09 up 3%. Reliance, GAIL, HPCL, Petronet LNG, Reliance Natura ended in green.
The BSE IT Index was at 3,879.98 up 1%. Tech Mahindra, TCS, Satyam, HCL Tech ended higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14177.15 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 42675.67 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6389.78 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 63242.60 crore.

Mkt trades in green: Sensex hovers around 18,000
The markets have moved in green amid volaitity and Sensex has breached 18,000 mark. Buying is seen in pharma, metal, oil stocks. Broader markets have outperfromed frontline counters today. Technology, realty, banking and capital good stocks are still under pressure. Most of the Asian markets ended lower.
At 2.14 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 153.68 points or 0.86% at 17920.31, and the Nifty up 57.70 points or 1.11% at 5259.70.
About 1913 shares have advanced, 1021 shares declined, and 85 shares are unchanged.
Tata Steel, Sterlite, Ranbaxy, Hindalco, BHEL, ICICI Bank, HUL are among the top gainers on the indices.Top losers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 425 down 3.06%, Maruti Suzuki Rs 809.80 2.49% and DLF at Rs 845 down 2.3%.

Mkts lacklustre: Pharma, metal, oil up; IT down
The markets are trading flat amid volatility. However on account of selective buying in pharma, metal, oil stocks there is support at the lower levels. Broader markets have outperfromed frontline counters today. Technology, realty, banking and capital good stocks are still under pressure. Most of the Asian markets ended lower.
At 12.31 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 25.17 points or 0.14% at 17741.46, and the Nifty up 7.20 points or 0.14% at 5209.20.
About 1583 shares have advanced, 1364 shares declined, and 72 shares are unchanged.

Mkts trading quiet; IT, realty stocks still in painThe markets have recovered from its early low's and are trading quiet with midest losses. Broader markets have outperfromed frontline counters today. Technology, realty, banking and capital good stocks are still under pressure, however oil & gas, metal and FMCG indices are holding up in green.
Asian markets have also recovered from its day's low and has provided support to Indian markets. Market breadth has turned positive with over 650 stocks on the advancing side and nearly 500 stocks on the decline side on NSE. Volume has been slightly lower so far.
At 11.50 am, the Sensex is down 128.25 points or 0.72% at 17638.38, and the Nifty down 39.45 points or 0.76% at 5162.55. About 1491 shares have advanced, 1446 shares declined, and 82 shares are unchanged.

Mkts still in red; tech, realty, bank stocks slip
The markets have recovered from the early low's but are still trading in red with significant cuts. Technology, realty, banking stocks are still struggling to find its feet. Oil & gas, FMCG, consumer durables and pharma indices are trading with modest gains.
At 11.10 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 114.54 points or 0.64% at 17652.09, and the Nifty down 7.95 points or 0.15% at 5194.05. About 1458 shares have advanced, 1488 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.
Market breadth has also improved from its early lows, now the advance decline ratio is 1:1 on NSE. Its been yet another day of low volume so far.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,143.90 up 3.30%, ONGC at Rs 1,038 up 1.20% and Hindalco at Rs 165.20 up 0.89%.
Top losers on the Sensex are DLF at Rs 844.25 down 2.38%, Larsen & Toubro at Rs 3,424.95 down 2.34% and Infosys at Rs 1,517 down 1.96%
Top gainers on the Nifty are Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,117 up 1.91%, NALCO at Rs 357 up 1.85% and BPCL at Rs 473.80 up 1.72%.
Top losers on the Nifty are Unitech at Rs 374.40 down 4.29%, Suzlon Energy at Rs 329 down 2.78% and Infosys at Rs 1,511 down 2.31%.

Mkts open with gap down; IT, realty, power stocks down
The markets opened on weak note today in line with its global peers. Asian markets are trading weak on renewed credit concerns following weak cues from the US markets. Technology, realty, power and metal stocks opened with significant cuts today.
At 9:56 am, Sensex was down 253 points at 17512 and Nifty was down 83 points at 5118. Major losers in the opening trade were ACC, Reliance Petroleum, Rel Comm, Satyam, ITC, Unitech, Infosys and Grasim.
Asian markets were trading weak. Hong Kong's Hang Seng plunged 1.98% or 475.15 points at 23,546.53. Japan's Nikkei dropped 1.49% or 202.52 points at 13,423.93. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was down 0.25% or 19.96 points at 7,845.32. South Korea's Seoul Composite fell 0.95% or 16.07 points at 1,681.38. Singapore's Straits Times dropped 0.22% or 6.79 points at 3,038.80.
US markets: The Dow plunged 175.26 points, or 1.40%, to 12,376.98. The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 18.35 points, or 1.34%, to 1,348.86, and the Nasdaq composite index dropped 41.39 points, or 1.74%, to 2,332.54.
