The markets opened on very strong note today in line with its gloabl peers and traded strong and stable during first half but gave up gains on account of profit booking witnessed across the sectors led by the oil & gas, pharma, realty, banking and auto stocks. Sensex and Nifty turned choppy in late trade and slipped in deep red before ending with modest gains.
It was yet another a high volume trading day wherein trade worth over one lakh crore took place. Market breadth breadth remained positive through the day however the gap was narrowed down in later half to 2:1 in favour of advancing stocks. It was once again a good day for the midcaps and smallcaps which outperformed the frontline counters for most part ofthe day. Metal, IT and consumer durable index were strong at the time of closing but the realty, auto, pharma and oil & gas counters actuall spooked the markets.
Sensex ended up 12.32 points or 0.06% at 19091.96, and the Nifty closed up 8.85 points or 0.15% at 5751.15. on BSE, about 1982 shares advanced, 1072 shares declined, and 43 shares were unchanged. BSE midcap was down 0.15% at 9080.39 and Smallcap was up 0.82% at 11915.36.
BSE auto index was down 0.70% at 5525.64. Amtek Auto, Tube Investment, Maruti Suzuki, Exide Industrie and Tata Motors were top losers.
BSE healthcare index was down 0.33% at 4247.16. Opto Circuits, Dr Reddys Labs, Biocon, Glenmark and Novartis India were top losers.
BSE oil & gas index was down 0.23% at 12280.80. GAIL, IOC, Reliance, Reliance Natural Resources, Petronet LNG were top losers.
BSE realty index was down 0.44% at 11603.26. Phoenix Mills, Anant Raj Ind, Indiabulls Real, Omaxe and Sobha Developer were top losers.
BSE FMCG index was up 0.64% at 2224.19. Tata Tea, United Spirits, ITC, HUL and Colgate were among top gainers in this space.
BSE IT indexx was up 0.44% at 4181. Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, Mphasis and HCL Tech were top gainers in the IT sector.
BSE metal index was up 0.69% at 18202.10. Shree Precoated, NALCO, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa and JSW Steel were top gainers.
BSE power index was up 0.18% at 4222.80. Reliance Energy, GMR Infra, Suzlon Energy, Tata Power and BHEL were few leading gainers.
BSE bankex was flat at 10763.96 and BSE capital good index also ended flat at 18898.17.
Turnover today: Turnover in BSE cash section today was at Rs 8309.61 cr, in NSE cash, Rs 18203.41 cr, NSE F&O mkt it was Rs 79137.14 cr and the total turnover was at Rs 105650.16 cr.

Markets trading weak; oil, realty stocks drag
The markets slipped into red on the back of profit booking witnessed across the sectors. Oil & gas, pharma, FMCG and realty index have slipped into red. Consumer durable and metal index was still holding up in green. Smallcap index was still strong, however midcap has pared most of its gains.
Market breadth was still in positive but the gap has narrowed down from the early trade level. On NSE over 800 stocks were up and nearly 400 stocks were on the downside.
At 14.55 pm, the Sensex is down 112.37 points or 0.59% at 18967.27, and the Nifty down 25.85 points or 0.45% at 5716.45. About 1798 shares have advanced, 1258 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged.
M&M, Reliance Energy, ONGC and VSNL were some of the leading index gainers. On the index leading losers were HDFC, Maruti Suzuki, SBI, ABB, HDFC and GAIL.
Most active shares on NSE are Reliance at Rs 2,726 with 1,394,239 shares, Jyothy Labs at Rs 780 with 3,312,846 shares and Ispat Industries at Rs 83.80 with 30,755,281 shares.
Mkts off day's high; smallcap index outperform
The markets have given up most of its gains and were trading flat on account of heavy profit booking witnessed in the oil & gas, power, cap goods, realty and banking stocks. Metals were still attracting good amount of attention.
At 1.45 pm, the Sensex is up 47.87 points or 0.25% at 19127.51, and the Nifty up 13.30 points or 0.23% at 5755.60. About 2338 shares have advanced, 717 shares declined, and 42 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Mah and Mah at Rs 803 up 4.20%, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,863.05 up 3.04% and ONGC at Rs 1,184 up 2.96%.
Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC at Rs 2,717 down 3.39%, Maruti Suzuki at Rs 993.40 down 2.57% and Grasim at Rs 3,588 down 1.33%.
Most active shares on NSE are Reliance at Rs 2,726 with 1,394,239 shares, Jyothy Labs at Rs 780 with 3,312,846 shares and Ispat Industries at Rs 83.80 with 30,755,281 shares.
Mkts give up some gains; metals still shining
The markets have been witnessing some profit booking at higher lever and have given up some early gains. Oil & gas, power, realty and IT stocks were facing selling pressure. All the key indices were still trading in green led by the metal, capital goods and banking stocks.
Market breadth continue to be impressive with nearly 1100 stocks on the advancing side and over 100 stocks on the down side. Volume so far has been good. Smallcaps and Midcaps were still outperforming the frontliners.
At 12.40 pm, the Sensex is up 69.09 points or 0.36% at 19148.73, and the Nifty up 27.00 points or 0.47% at 5769.30. About 2437 shares have advanced, 622 shares declined, and 37 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Nifty were Reliance Energy at Rs 1,886.05 up 4.48%, NALCO at Rs 431 up 3.89% and ONGC at Rs 1,190 up 3.44%.
Top losers on the Nifty were Sun Pharma at Rs 1,105 down 2.92%, HUL at Rs 209.25 down 1.41% and Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 710 down 1.14%

Mkts stable with good gains; midcaps outperform
The markets were trading stable with significant gains on the back of heavy buying taking place across the sectors led by the metal, power, cap good and realty stocks. All the BSE indices were trading in green with good amount of gains and the market breadth was extremely impressive with good amount of volumes in the early trade today.
At 11.05 am, the Sensex is up 248.40 points or 1.30% at 19328.04, and the Nifty up 75.85 points or 1.32% at 5818.15. On BSE, about 2493 shares have advanced, 569 shares declined, and 33 shares were unchanged. On NSE, over 1000 stocks were on the advancing side and 82 stocks on the downside.
Top gainers on the Nifty were Reliance Energy at Rs 1,886.05 up 4.48%, NALCO at Rs 431 up 3.89% and ONGC at Rs 1,190 up 3.44%.
Top losers on the Nifty were Sun Pharma at Rs 1,105 down 2.92%, HUL at Rs 209.25 down 1.41% and Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 710 down 1.14%

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 210.40 down 0.38%, Reliance was trading at Rs 2,770.00 up 1.51%, Infosys was trading at Rs 1,645.00 up 1.51%, ITC was trading at Rs 203.50 up 2.86% and HPCL was trading at Rs 314 up 2.7%.
Mkts open strong; metal, bank, cap good stocks up
Markets opened on very strong note today taking cues from the global markets. Huge amount of buying was witnessed in the power, banking, metal and IT sectors. Jyothy Labs lists at Rs 851 versus its issue price of Rs 690.
At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 293 points at 19373 and Nifty was up 81 points at 5823. Major gainers in the opening trade were RPL, Reliance, Sterlite Industries, ONGC, Tata Power, HDFC, HDFC Bank, M&M, Hindalco, BHEL, Tata Steel, Infosys and L&T.
Asian markets were trading firm. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.27% or 339.66 points at 27,072.53, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted surged 2.28% or 178.18 points at 7,985.57. Singapore's Straits Times rose 1.12% or 37.61 points at 3,406.92, Japan's Nikkei was up 0.04% or 6.39 points at 15,214.25.
US market: The Dow Jones industrial average gained 65.27 points, or 0.50%, at 13,232.47. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 9.08 points, or 0.63%, at 1,454.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 21.57 points, or 0.84%, at 2,596.03.
