Mkts end with modest cut; midcaps outperform

The markets slipped in red after few minutes of opening and continued to trade weak amid volatility for most part of the day and ended flat with moderate cut. Midcap and smallcaps continued to rally today and outperformed the frontline counters once again. Power, metal and the FMCG stocks were the lagards, however realty, consumer durables and banking stocks emerged as winners. IT counters also witnessed some decent attentions in the early trade but could not maintain the momentum and the index ended on flat note.Market breadth was impressive through out the day but the over all participation was relatively lower. Sensex ended down 35.32 points or 0.18% at 19930.68, and the Nifty closed down 13.70 points or 0.23% at 5960.60.On BSE, 2023 shares advanced and 784 shares declined. On NSE, 808 stocks advanced and 406 stocks declined. BSE midcap ended up 1.06% at 9117.44 and smallcap was up 1.66% at 11530.92. BSE auto index was up 0.46% at 5677.39. Hind Motors, Ashok Leyland and Exide Industries were the top gainers in this space. BSE bankex was up 0.95% at 11486.45. Union bank, CBOP and PNB were the top gainers in the banking sector. BSE IT index was up 0.19% at 4432.92. Financial Tech and Infosy were the few high performers in this space. BSE realty index was up 2.13% at 11822.88. Ansal Prop, Indiabulls Realestate and Omaxe end with good gains in realty sector. BSE capital good index was down 0.44% at 20130.92. Areva T&D, BHEL, Triveni were top fliers in the cap good segment. BSE FMCG index was down 0.78% at 2160.27. Glaxosmith, Brittania, HUL were some top performers. BSE pharma index was down 0.22% at 3998.60. Divi's Lab, Cipla and Panacea were top gainers. BSE metal index was down 0.19% at 18701.84. Shreeprecoated, Jindal and Sterlite Inds were some top gainers in this space. BSE power index was down 0.58% at 4501.33. GVK Power, BHEL and CESC were some top gainers in this segment. Markets today:
