Mkts end in deep red on political turbulence

The markets saw a sharp cut in today's session on account of political concerns looming large. They opened in positive taking cues from Asia but saw a sharp fall.

Some off the Asian markets which opened in green were off day's high and ended weak.

Sensex was down nearly 300 points or 2%. Broader markets have taken it on their chin and are the midcap and smallcap indices were down 4%. Breadth of the market was absolutely weak, with advance decline ratio at 1:10.

Sensex closed down 281.97 points or 1.59% at 17491.39, and the Nifty down 100.75 points or 1.94% at 5085.10.

About 621 shares have advanced, 2364 shares declined, and 56 shares are unchanged.

Heavy selling was witnessed across the sectors led by realty, metals and pharma.

Top gainers on the indices are Satyam, Bhel, TCS, Wipro, VSNL and HDFC Bank.

Top losers on the indices are are Reliance Energy, Ranbaxy, Zee Entertainment, Unitech ACC and Tata Steel.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,211.60 down 3.6%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,801.00 down 3.3%.

The BSE Bankex was down 2.6% at 8,984.86. Andhra Bank, Karnataka Bank, Kotak Mahindra, SBI, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, Bank of India moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 2% at 15,445.63. Bharat Elec, Praj Industries,  Jyoti Structure, BEML, Triveni Eng, Gammon India closed lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,270.71 down 2%.  TVS Motor, Ashok Leyland, Maruti Udyog, Apollo Tyres, Mah and Mah, Exide Industrie, Hero Honda closed lower.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 13,589.61 down 4%. Tata Steel, SAIL, Shree Precoated, Jindal Steel, Mah Seamless, Hindalco, JindalStainless closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,089.61 down 1%. United Spirits, Bata India, United Brewerie, Colgate, HUL
 closed lower

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 9,797.65 down 3%. RNRL, Essar Oil, Petronet LNG, IOC, Reliance, Reliance Petro ended in red.

The BSE IT Index was up 0.6% at 4,770.31.  Satyam, HCL Tech, Infosys, Patni Computer, Wipro, TCS closed higher

The BSE realty Index lost 3.6% at 9,283.22.  Anant Raj Ind, Ansal Propertie, Unitech, Indiabulls Real, Omaxe closed lower.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 15985.52 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 69842.2 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 7210.25 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 93037.97 crore.

Markets in deep red: Metal, bank, realty stocks down

The markets are ranged and continue to trade heavy losses on account of ongoing political uncertainty.

Some off the Asian markets which opened in green were off day's high and ended weak.

Sensex has shown little recovery and is down nearly 300 points or over 2% and is trading near the day's low. Broader markets have taken it on their chin and are the midcap and smallcap indices are down 4%. Breadth of the market is absolutely weak, with advance decline ratio at 1:10.

At 15.12 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 323.25 points or 1.82% at 17450.11, and the Nifty down 102.50 points or 1.98% at 5083.35.

About 561 shares have advanced, 2435 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.

Heavy selling was witnessed across the sectors led by realty, metals and pharma.

Top gainers on the indices are Satyam, Bhel, TCS, Wipro, VSNL and HDFC Bank.

Top losers on the indices are are Reliance Energy, Ranbaxy, Zee Entertainment, Unitech ACC and Tata Steel.

Metals index is the top loser down over 5%. Major losers were Hind Zinc at 793 down 5.94%, JSW Steel at at 809.90  down 4.91%, Shree Precoated at 430 down 4.61%, Tata Steel down 4% at 799.

Realty stocks were also trading weak and the index is down 3%. Ansal Propertie at 261 down 5.26%, HDIL at 682 down 5.23% and Anant Raj Ind at 312 down 4.94%.

Most active shares on NSE are Power Grid Corp at Rs 98.50 with 27,102,706 shares, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,365.55 with 1,308,573 shares and Reliance Comm at Rs 637.85 with 2,711,584 shares. 

Markets plunge: Sensex down over 2%

The markets have plunged and are trading deep in red  on account of ongoing political uncertainty. Sensex has fallen nearly 400 points or over 2% and is trading near the day's low. Broader markets have taken it on their chin and are the midcap and smallcap indices are down 4%.

At 1:48 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 389.26 points or 2.19% at 17384.10, and the Nifty down 152.80 points or 2.95% at 5033.05.

About 565 shares have advanced, 2430 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.

Heavy selling was witnessed across the sectors led by realty, metals and pharma.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam, Bhel, TCS and HDFC Bank.

Top losers on the Sensex are are Reliance Energy, ACC and Tata Steel.

Market trades weak: IT stocks outperform

The markets are trading in red but are off day's low on account of sustained selling pressure in index pivotals. Heavy selling was witnessed across the sectors led by realty, metals and pharma. However, IT stocks are on an upmove. Itas been a regular feature with IT socks, they are down when markets are trading higher and vice versa.

At 1:15 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 234.94 points or 1.32% at 17538.42, and the Nifty down 104.60 points or 2.02% at 5081.25.

About 642 shares have advanced, 2336 shares declined, and 62 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 456.10 up 2.62%, Bhel up 2.6%, TCS up 2.04% and HDFC Bank up 1.25%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are are Reliance Energy down 4%, ACC down 4% and Tata Steel at Rs 799 down 4%

Markets dip further on political uncertainty

The markets have slipped more on the news of ongoing political uncertainty in New Delhi. Heavy selling was witnessed across the sectors led by realty, metals and pharma.

At 12.14 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 291.17 points or 1.64% at 17482.19, and the Nifty down 74.45 points or 1.44% at 5111.40. About 641 shares have advanced, 2335 shares declined, and 64 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 456.10 up 2.62%, TCS at Rs 1,092 up 2.04% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,418 up 1.25%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are are Reliance Energy at Rs 1,354 down 6.44%, ACC at Rs 1,122.55 down 4.59% and Tata Steel at Rs 798 down 4.19%

Mkts trades weak on heavy selling: midcap collapses

The markets are trading weak after strong opening today on the back of heavy selling seen across the sectors. Markets breadth has once again collapsed and the volume is low since opening today.

At 11.22 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 216.21 points or 1.22% at 17557.15, and the Nifty down 86.25 points or 1.66% at 5099.60. About 654 shares have advanced, 2318 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank at Rs 1,432 up 2.25%, Satyam at Rs 448.60 up 0.93% and BHEL at Rs 2,173 up 0.90%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are ACC at Rs 1,132.30 down 3.77%, NTPC at Rs 207 down 3.47% and Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 633 down 3.13%. 

BSE Midcap was down over 2.4% at 7234.56 and the smallcap was down over 2.74% at 8852.61.

Mkts lose early gains on profit booking; midcaps weak

The markets opened on very strong note today on account of heavy buying seen across the sectors backed by strong global cues. It could not sustain the early gains and succumbed to profit booking within 10 minutes of trade.

At 10.11 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 25.86 points or 0.15% at 17747.50, and the Nifty down 5.95 points or 0.11% at 5179.90. About 1257 shares have advanced, 1694 shares declined, and 89 shares are unchanged.

Major gainers in the opening trade were Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Reliance, Reliance Comm, MTNL and DLF.

Asian markets were trading firm. Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 1.72% or 478.05 points at 28,309.57, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted advanced 1.14% or 109.22 points at 9,726.48, Singapore's Straits Times rose 1.09% or 41.50 points at 3,864.12 and South Korea's Seoul Composite gained 1.01% or 20.10 points at 2,016.13.
