Mkts end higher amid choppy trade; metal, banks gain

Markets @ 2:59 pm : Mkts in green; BSE Metal, Bankex up over 1.5% The markets have again bounced back and trading smartly with good gains. Banking, metal, capital goods, power, pharma and oil stocks continued to trade higher. Midcap and small cap stocks also jumped. Market breadth is positive. At 2:59 pm, the Sensex was up 103 points at 17,456 and the Nifty up 48 points at 5163. About 1661 shares have advanced, 1210 shares declined, and 219 shares are unchanged. Ranbaxy, HDFC Bank, HUL, BPCL, PNB and Cairn India were biggest gainers while Ambuja Cements, HDFC, TCS, HCL Tech and Siemens top losers. BSE Metal and Bankex went up over 1.5%; Capital Goods and Healthcare up over 1% each; Oil & Gas and Power up nearly 1%; FMCG and Auto up over 0.6%. Markets @ 1:44 pm : Mkts choppy; Ranbaxy, PNB, Suzlon top gainers Markets are trading choppy as the majority sectoral indices are witnessing modest buying interest. Even rupee continue to depreciating against dollar and is trading at Rs 42.90 per dollar BSE IT index not shows any sign on recovery and still in negative bias. The BSE bank, capital goods, metal and power stocks are trading in positive terrain but with modest gains while BSE IT and realty indices witness selling pressure. At 1.44 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 1.15 points or 0.01% at 17352.39, and the Nifty up 16.50 points or 0.32% at 5131.75. About 1572 shares have advanced, 1301 shares declined, and 217 shares are unchanged. Ranbaxy Labs, HDFC Bank, Satyam, PNB, Suzlon Energy and Cairn India are top gainers on the bourses Markets @ 12:46 pm :Mkts rebound; power, banks, capital goods stks up The markets have rebounded marginally and started trading higher with the support from banking, capital goods, power, realty, oil & gas and metal stocks, and not reacted to weak inflation numbers. Midcap and small cap stocks are still in green. On the global front, European markets were trading strong. Asian markets ended mixed. At 12:46 pm, the Sensex was up 62 points at 17,415 and the Nifty up 30 points at 5,145. Market breadth is positive, about 1687 shares have advanced, 1181 shares declined, and 222 shares are unchanged. BSE Bankex, Capital Goods, Metal and Power indices shot up over 1%. Midcap and Small Cap indices remained above 0.5%. Realty and Oil & Gas were up over 0.6%. Top gainers were HDFC Bank, L&T, Ranbaxy, PNB, Cairn and Suzlon Energy while losers - Ambuja Cements, HDFC and Infosys. Banking stocks like PNB, Centurion Bank, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, SBI, Kotak Mahindra and Axis Bank have gained. Capital goods stocks including L&T, ABB, Kirloskar Oil, Thermax and Bharat Bijlee jumped higher. Amongst power space, Suzlon Energy, Tata Power, GMR Infra, Reliance Infra, CESC, Reliance Power and GVK Power have charged up. In the metal space, JSW Steel, SAIL, Sterlite, Jindal Steel and Tata Steel were shining. The Indian Rupee was trading off day's high at 42.73 per dollar. Contd on page 3.. |
