Mkts close on a new high: Sensex inching towards 18K

It was a eventful day for Indian markets as opened with bang but slipped in red taking the Sensex sub 17,300 levels but bounced back inching towards the 18,000 levels. Sensex graph was typically V shaped, closing near the high point of the day.

It was a historic day in rems of volume also with over Rs 130,000 crore. The cues from Asia were mixed and even Europe opened flat.

Asia ended mixed, Hang Seng is down over 1600 points from the day's high. Hang Seng was down over 2% as there have been talks of FIIs reducing their holdings in Hong Kong-listed Chinese firms.

Realty, IT, power, capital goods and oil & gas were among the top gainers. Selling pressure was seen in select pharma consumer durables and cement stocks. Broader markets underperformed the benchmark indices.

Top gainers on the Sensex were DLF, Infosys, HDFC, ICICI, Tata Power, Sterlite Ind, Suzlon Eergy, NTPC, Reliance Comm, Reliance Energy and Reliance. 

Cipla, Ranbaxy, Ambuja Cements, SBI, Tata Steel, GAIL, MTNL were among the top losers.

Suzlon has bagged 150 MW order from DLF and the stock is up over 3%.

Sensex was up 518.42 points or 2.99% at 17847.04, and the Nifty up 141.85 points or 2.80% at 5210.80.

About 1221 shares have advanced, 1762 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 9,108.70 down 0.8%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,540.54 up 0.2%.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,157.31 up 0.3%. Marico, Tata Tea, Dabur India, Colgate closed in green.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 14,180.50 up 2%. Hindalco, Hind Zinc, Sesa Goa, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel were among the gainers.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.5% at 3,817.82. Orchid Chemical, Glenmark, Cipla, Sun Pharma closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up  2.6% at 15,064.27. Greaves Cotton, BEML, Jyoti Structure, Reliance Infra, BHEL  ended higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,399.60 up 1.6%. Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, Bajaj Auto, Mah and Mah, Bharat Forge were among the gainers

The BSE IT Index closed at 4,790.90 up 4%. Infosys, TCS, I-Flex Solution, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, HCL Tech ended higher.

The BSE Bankex was up 2% at 9,575.59. Karnataka Bank, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank Axis Bank, SBI,  HDFC Bank  closed higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,008.53 up 3.4%. Reliance, BPCL, IOC, ONGC closed in green

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 24819.65 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 105619 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 10023.92 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 140462.57 crore.

Market trades higher amid volatility: Energy, realty up

The markets are stable at the higher levels after a blip in the noon. Power space continues to hog the limelight and among the other gainers were oil & gas, real estate and IT stocks. Markets have moved up with lot of ferrocity in the past few weeks on account of abundant liquidity. The broader have slipped in red and smallcap 1.3% and midcap down 0.6%. 

At 3.01 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 347.84 points or 2.01% at 17676.46, and the Nifty up 78.25 points or 1.54% at 5147.20.

About 1077 shares have advanced, 1880 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.

After a huge rally RPL, Reliance Energy and Rel Capital have all taken it on their chin today.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Infosys, HDFC, ICICI, Tata Power, Sterlite Ind, Suzlon Eergy, NTPC, Reliance Comm, and Reliance.

Markets volatile: Sensex, Nifty in green

It has been an extremely volatile session for the markets. Sensex has swung over 400 points in the noon but is back in green. It has been a sharp rally in the last couple of weeks and today there is a lot of volatility. Sensex is up 200 points and Nifty is up over 50 points.

The broader have slipped in red and smallcap 1.8% and midcap down 1.3%. 

At 1.45 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 198.32 points or 1.14% at 17526.94, and the Nifty up 62.50 points or 1.23% at 5131.45.

About 980 shares have advanced, 1988 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged.

Mkt slips in red: Sensex down over 600 pts from day's high

The markets have given up all their morning gains and have slipped in red. Pharma and consumer index are top losers.

Most active shares on BSE are Reliance at Rs 2,429 with 963,930 shares, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,424 with 1,097,880 shares and DLF at Rs 856.85 with 1,765,405 shares. 

BSE midcap was up 1.92% at 7673.30 and BSE smallcap was up 1.06% at 9281.74. Rupee was quoting at 39.81 against a US dollar. On NSE Advance decline ratio was 749:331.

Oil & gas index was up 1.7% at 10,187.61. In this spcae, ONGC was up 5.23% at 1049.20 and Reliance was up 6.32% at 2434.

Sensex heading towards 18K; NTPC, Rel Comm top gainers

The markets are in momentum and have gained further as the realty, power and telecom stocks have attracted further buying. All the key BSE indices were trading with over 1.5% gains except pharma index. 

At 12.10 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 531.33 points or 3.07% at 17859.95, and the Nifty up 177.15 points or 3.49% at 5246.10. About 1903 shares have advanced, 1059 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are NTPC at Rs 219.60 up 6.60%, Reliance Comm at Rs 649.50 up 6.14% and Reliance at Rs 2,429 up 6.10%. 

Only loser on Sensex was Cipla at Rs 188.50 down 0.08%.

Mkts in momentum; realty, power stocks strong

The markets are trading very strong today on account of heavy buying seen across the sectors led by power, realty, telecom and IT. All the BSE indices were trading with good gains and the market breadth was impressive. Volume in the early trade was also very good.

At 11.25 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 538.43 points or 3.11% at 17867.05, and the Nifty up 164.95 points or 3.25% at 5233.90. About 1902 shares have advanced, 1060 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty are NTPC at Rs 218 up 5.57%, Reliance Comm at Rs 639 up 4.35% and ONGC at Rs 1,039 up 3.95%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are BPCL at Rs 373.50 down 1.03%, Ambuja Cements at Rs 147.55 down 0.3% and HPCL at Rs 275.30 down 0.11%. 

Rupee was quoting at 39.83 against a US dollar. On NSE Advance decline ratio was 839:311.

Realty stocks were trading very strong today. BSE realty index was up 7.13% at 9863.45. Major gainers in this space were DLF and Unitech.

Oil & gas, banking, IT and metals indices were trading with over 2% gain each on BSE. BSE midcap and smallcap indices have been under performing today with regard to the Sensex.

Most active shares on NSE are DLF at Rs 872.10 with 3,455,939 shares, Reliance Comm at Rs 639 with 3,393,151 shares and Reliance Energy at Rs 1,398 with 1,482,965 shares.  

Mkts open on strong note; Sensex above 17,600

The matkets opened on a very strong note today on the back of heavy buying seen across the sectors. Cues from the Asian markets were strong today. Power, telecom and realty stocks were in focus in early trade today. 

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 289 points at 17618 and Nifty was up 65 points 5135. Major gainers were Rel Comm, Rel Power, Reliance Infra, DLF, ICICI bank, Tata Steel, ONGC and NTPC.

Asian stocks were mixed in early trading today, with Tokyo's Nikkei Average trading flat as gains in brokerage stocks such as Nomura Holdings offset a weaker start by Toyota Motor Corp.

Japan's Nikkei was flat at 17,055.49, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.13% or 36.48 points at 28,163.27, However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.79% or 75.97 points at 9,699.22, Singapore's Straits Times surged 1.02% or 38.76 points at 3,832.59.
