It was yet another weak and extremely disappointing day for the markets. The markets opened with huge gap down on the back of disappointing listing of much awaited Reliance Power coupled with weak cues from the global markets. Sensex and Nifty traded under deep pressure for most part of the day and ended with substantial losses.
Reliance Power ended with sharp cut of over 17% on its maiden trading day. It got listed at Rs 430 today against its issue price of Rs 450. All the key BSE indices ended deep in red led by oil & gas, metal, power, realty and bankex. Market breadth was extremely poor with low volume. IT stocks were the star performer's in todays trade and the leading counters could manage to hold in green.
Sensex ended down 833.98 points or 4.78% at 16630.91, and the Nifty was down 263.35 points or 5.14% at 4857. On BSE, about 352 shares advanced, 2610 shares declined, and 49 shares were unchanged. BSE midcap ended down 5.71% at 7197.06 and smallcap closed down 4.92% at 9431.85.
BSE auto index ended down 3.85% at 4558.93. Punjab Tractors, Escorts and Apollo Tyres were the top losers.
BSE bankex closed down 4.31% at 9721.67. Kotak Mahindra, Centurion Bank, SBI were the top losers.
BSE capital good index closed down 5.08% at 15052.70. Greaves Cotton, Kirloskar Bros and LMW were the top losers.
BSE FMCG index ended down 5.88% at 2047.18. HUL, Bata India and Dabur were the top losers.
BSE pharma index ended down 3.25% at 3515.61. Orchid Chemical, Sterling Bio and Ranbaxy Labs were the top losers.
BSE IT index up 0.10% at 3847.24. Patni Comp, Tech mahindra and Financial Tech were the the top losers.
BSE metal index ended down 6.63% at 14112.22. Jindal Steel, Maharasthra Seamless and Ispat Industries were the top losers.
BSE oil & gas index ended down 7.67% at 9822.40. Reliance natural, Essar Oil and GAIL were the top losers.
BSE power index closed down 9.52% at 3380.60. Reliance Energy, Torrent Power and Tata Power were the top losers.
BSE realty index closed down 6.52% at 9145.78. HDIL, Ansal Properties and Phoenix Mills were the top losers in this space.

Mkts witnessing fresh wave of selling pressure
Fresh wave of selling pressure has hit the markets taking Nifty back below 200 days daily moving average once again. Sensex is trading with over 800 points cut. IT index has also slipped in red and joined its peers who are reeling under pressure since opening today.
At 15.09 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 824.79 points or 4.72% at 16640.10, and the Nifty down 267.05 points or 5.22% at 4853.30. About 354 shares have advanced, 2611 shares declined, and 46 shares are unchanged.
Reliance power has come off further ans is trading at Rs 376 versus its issue price of Rs 450.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Satyam at Rs 424.50 up 3.65%, Zee Entertainment at Rs 247 up 2.36% and VSNL at Rs 487.75 up 10.09%.
Top losers on the Nifty are Tata Power at Rs 1,209 down 9.34%, GAIL at Rs 386 down 9.24% and Unitech at Rs 318.80 down 9.02%.
Markets trading weak but off day's low
The markets have pulled back smartly from the day's low but are still trading deep in red. Some buying was seen in IT and banking space. All the BSE indices are still trading with huge losses barring IT index.
SBI has cut the PLR by 25 bps to 12.5%. Market breadth has improved slightly. On NSE nearly 71 stocks are on advancing side versus over 1148 stocks on the decline side.
At 14.48 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 463.16 points or 2.65% at 17001.73, and the Nifty down 140.95 points or 2.75% at 4979.40. About 360 shares have advanced, 2603 shares declined, and 48 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 429 up 4.63%, TCS at Rs 917.30 up 1.93% and Infosys at Rs 1,574.90 up 1.52%.
Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC at Rs 2,601 down 6.98%, ONGC at Rs 929.90 down 6.75% and Mah and Mah at Rs 604.95 down 6.2%.
Reliance Power is trading at Rs 401 after getting listed at Rs 430 today against its issue price of Rs 450.
Reliance, Rel Comm, L&T, NTPC, ICICI bank and DLF are some of the very active counters in terms of value. On the volume front, some of the most active counters are NTPC, ITC, Rel Comm, HUL and Reliance Energy.
Markets plunge further; Nifty below 200 DMA
The markets have plunged further on the back of heavy selling pressure across sectors following extremely poor listing of Reliance Power. Weak cues from the global markets have accentuated the pain. Asian markets ended with deep cut today and Europe opened on weak note.
Market breadth has collapsed further with advance decline ratio of nearly 1:35 on NSE. Volume has also been dismal in today's trade so far.
At 14.10 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 740.74 points or 4.24% at 16724.15, and the Nifty down 206.95 points or 4.04% at 4913.40. About 318 shares have advanced, 2642 shares declined, and 51 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Nifty are VSNL at Rs 469 up 5.86%, Satyam at Rs 426.50 up 4.14% and Infosys at Rs 1,589.40 up 2.39%.
Top losers on the Nifty are GAIL at Rs 388.05 down 8.76%, SAIL at Rs 183.75 down 8.56% and Tata Power at Rs 1,235 down 7.39%.
Realty, metal, oil & gas indices are trading with significant cut of over 7%. BSE Bankex, BSE midcap and smallcap index are trading with loss of 5-6% range.
In the power space, Reliance Energy, Torrent Power have been worst hit. Both are trading with a cut of over 15%. In the oil & gas sector, Essar Oil, GAIL, ONGC and RNRL are trading with huge cut of over 8% each.
Mkts still under deep pressure; Nifty below 200 DMA
The markets are witnessing volatlity at the lower level. Nifty is facing tremendous selling pressure and has slipped below 200 days moving average (DMA). All the key indices are reeling under pressure barring the IT space. Energy, metal, bank, power stocks have been smashed.
Market breadth is negative with advance decline ratio near 1:15 on NSE. Volume has also been very disppointing.
At 13.05 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 848.13 points or 4.86% at 16616.76, and the Nifty down 302.25 points or 5.90% at 4818.10. About 348 shares have advanced, 2609 shares declined, and 54 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Nifty are VSNL at Rs 469 up 5.86%, Satyam at Rs 426.50 up 4.14% and Infosys at Rs 1,589.40 up 2.39%.

Broader markets have underperformed the frontline indices and are trading in red. Nifty has been under tremendous pressure and has slipped below 4900 level. This level is also lower than 200 day moving average.
Market breadth has worsened further with advance decline ratio of 1:12 on NSE. 85 stocks are on the advancing side versus over 1080 stocks on the decline side. Volume so far has been realtively lower.
At 12.23 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 656.58 points or 3.76% at 16808.31, and the Nifty down 199.80 points or 3.90% at 4920.55. About 374 shares have advanced, 2582 shares declined, and 55 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 424.35 up 3.50%, TCS at Rs 922 up 2.45% and Infosys at Rs 1,584.50 up 2.14%.
Top losers on the Sensex are Reliance at Rs 2,279.95 down 5.86%, SBI at Rs 2,080 down 5.09% and ONGC at Rs 955 down 4.24%.

Markets trade in red: Nifty hovering around 5,000 mark
The markets are trading in red on selling pressure in scrips across sectors. Broader markets have underperformed the frontline indices and are trading in red. Nifty has breached 5000 mark and is currently hovering around the 5000 mark.
The market breadth is weak in the favour of declines. Scrips across sectors are trading in red. Barring IT index all BSE sector indices are in red. Energy, power, realty stocks are among the top losers.
At 11.31 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 404.33 points or 2.32% at 17060.56, and the Nifty down 184.20 points or 3.60% at 4936.15. About 555 shares have advanced, 2384 shares declined, and 72 shares are unchanged.
VSNL is the star performer up over 7% followed by Styam, TCS, Infosys are among the top gainers on the indices.
Among the top laggards were Reliance Energy down 7%, Reliance Communication, SBI, ONGC down over 3% followed by Cairn Energy, NTPC, Reliance Petroleum, ITC, SAIL.

Markets open in red tracking Asian peers
The markets opened in red tracking Asian peers. Scrips across sectors are trading in red. All BSE sector indices are in red. Energy, power, realty stocks are among the top losers.

At 10:00 am, Nifty was trading around the 5000 mark at 5006 down over 100 points. Sensex was trading around 17,100 mark down over 300 points.
Among the top laggards were NTPC, Reliance Petroleum, ITC, SAIL.
On the primary market front, Reliance Power got listed at Rs 430 versus issue price of Rs 450. It slipped below the Rs 400 mark and is now trading around Rs 400 mark.
Asian markets were trading lower. Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped 1.13%, South Korea's Seoul Composite dropped 3.20%, Singapore's Straits Times was down 1.10%. Wall Street ended mixed; Dow fell 64 points,Nasdaq was up 11 points.
