Mkt ends with hefty gains: Nifty closes above 200 DMA

The markets ended higher with hefty gains on account of Repo and Reverse Repo remained unchanged by RBI in the new Credit Policy. However, RBI has hiked CRR by 25 bps to 8.25%. Nifty has surged above 5,200 mark and is hovering around that level, Nifty closed above 200 DMA first time since February 29. On the sectoral front, IT, realty, banking, metal indices ended with smart gains. The BSE mid-cap and small cap indices closed with moderate gains, each up nearly 1%.
On the global front, cues from Asian markets were mixed. While, Europe is trading mixed.
Sensex closed up 362.50 points or 2.13% at 17378.46, and the Nifty up 105.85 points or 2.08% at 5195.50. About 1666 shares have advanced, 1211 shares declined, and 204 shares are unchanged. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,148.05 up 1.2%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,778.85 up 0.8%.
The BSE Bankex closed at 8,959.53 up 1.6%. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 13,914.50 up 1.2%. Suzlon, Reliance Infra, Siemens, Triveni Engineering closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,642.18 up 1.4%. Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 16,217.07 up 3.8%. SAIL, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc closed higher.
The BSE FMCG Index closed up 0.4% at 2,410.81. Colgate, ITC, Nestle, Marico, HUL, Dabur ended higher.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 11,671.11 up 2%. BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Reliance Natura, GAIL ended higher.
BSE Realty index was up 6% at 8,688.48.
The BSE IT Index was at 4,236.02 up 5.5%. HCL, Infosys, Tech mahindra, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra closed higher.

About 1695 shares have advanced, 1171 shares declined, and 215 shares are unchanged. Among the BSE indices, IT index has surged and is up nearly 5%, realty index is up over 3% bank, metal are up 2% each.
Satyam is up 8%, HCL up over 7%, DLF, HDFC are up over 5%, other gainers on the indices are Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Asso. Top losers on the indices were Bharti Airtel, Rel Comm, ABB, Idea Cellular, Cipla, BHEL.

Among the BSE indices, IT index has surged and is up nearly 5%, realty index is up over 3% bank, metal are up 2% each.
Satyam is up 8%, HCL up over 7%, DLF, HDFC are up over 5%, other gainers on the indices are Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Asso. Top losers on the indices were Bharti Airtel, Rel Comm, ABB, Idea Cellular, Cipla, BHEL.
Markets firm; Repo, Reverse Repo unchanged

The BSE mid-cap and small cap indices were trading marginally up. At 12.23 pm, the Sensex was up 279.08 points or 1.64% at 17295.04, and the Nifty was up 65.30 points or 1.28% at 5154.95.
About 1670 shares have advanced, 1195 shares declined, and 215 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the Sensex are HDFC, Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Asso.

The markets are trading with modest gain ahead of credit policy announcement. Buying interest seen in metal, pharma, consumer durable, auto stocks. At 10.36 am, the Sensex was up 29.68 points or 0.17% at 17045.64, and the Nifty was down 0.65 points or 0.01% at 5089.00. About 1563 shares have advanced, 1291 shares declined, and 226 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the bourses are Tata Steel, Jaiprakash Asso, Ranbaxy Labs, Dr Reddys Labs and Tata Comm. Top losers on the Sensex Bharti Airtel, BHEL and Infosys. Most active shares on BSE are Rel Capital, Glenmark and Sesa Goa. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 20.11 points, or 0.16%, to 12,871.75. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 1.47 points, or 0.11%, to 1,396.37, and the Nasdaq composite index gained 1.47 points, or 0.06%, to 2,424.40. Asian markets trading mixed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.28% 75.05 points at 25,738.34. However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted declined 0.25% or 18.05 points at 9,057.34. Singapore's Straits Times 0.77% or 24.64 points at 3,176.99. South Korea's Seoul Composite fell 0.45% or 8.14 points at 1,815.03. Market cues:
