Mkt ends in green: Tata Steel, Nalco top gainers

The markets ended in green on the triple witching day showing some smooth and healthy rollovers.  It was a choppy start but has gradually moved ahead to end at higher levels. Cues from Asia were posiitive with most of the markets Asia ending in green. Metal stocks were the star performers of the day with Tata Steel, Hindalco, Nalco being among the top gainers.

Also ahead there is SEBI's decision on participatory notes. Capital goods, metals and oil & gas stocks were attracting attention. IT, FMCG and auto stocks were subdued today.  

Midcap index ended inline with the frontline indices and was up over 1.3% and the smallcap index was up 1.4%.

Sensex was up 257.98 points or 1.39% at 18770.89, and the Nifty up 72.80 points or 1.32% at 5568.95.

About 1729 shares have advanced, 1247 shares declined, and 80 shares are unchanged.

BSE metal index is up over 4%, followed by auto, capital goods, oil & gas and bankex.

FMCG, IT and pharma indices were trading weak in the negative terrain.

Top gainers on the indices are Tata Steel, Nalco, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Hindalco, Reliance Energy, VSNL, BHEL, SAIL and SBI. 

Top losers on the indices were Cipla, HCL Tech, Dr Reddys Labs, ONGC  and HDFC Bank. 

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,750.93 up 1.3%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,367.08 up 1.4%.

The BSE Bankex was up 3% at 9,924.11. Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, PNB, Kotak Mahindra, Canara Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.2% at 17,314.13.  Areva T&D, Bharat Bijlee, Triveni Eng, Bharat Elec, Punj Lloyd closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,503.58 up 2%.  Tube Investment, Amtek Auto, MRF, Bharat Forge, Apollo Tyres, Punj Tractors closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 16,424.52 up 4%.  Tata Steel, Jindal Steel, Sterlite Ind, NALCO, Sesa Goa closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 2,134.75. Godrej Consumer, HUL, Marico, GlaxoSmith Con, Britannia closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,800.82 up 0.6%.  Petronet LNG, BPCL, Reliance Petro, Reliance, GAIL ended higher.

The BSE IT Index was flat at 4,582.54. Satyam, Wipro, HCL Tech closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 23411.47 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 103930.17 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 8421.14 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 135762.78 crore.

Market trades strong

The markets have gained further ground and are trading at the higher level. It was a choppy start but has gradually moved ahead to trade at higher levels. It looks like a smooth rollover on the triple witching day with 65% market wide rollover done. Cues from Asia have been posiitive with most of the markets Asia ending in green.

Also ahead there is SEBI's decision on participatory notes. Capital goods, metals and oil & gas stocks were attracting attention. IT, FMCG and auto stocks are subdued today.

At 1.31 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 204.65 points or 1.11% at 18717.56, and the Nifty up 49.10 points or 0.89% at 5545.25.

About 1876 shares have advanced, 1088 shares declined, and 91 shares are unchanged.

Extra ordinary performance is by the broader markets. Midcap index is up over 1.8% and the smallcap index is up 1.7%.

BSE metal index is up over 4%, followed by auto, capital goods, oil & gas and bankex up around 1%

FMCG, IT and pharma indices are trading weak in the negative terrain.

Top gainers on the indices are Tata Steel, Hindalco, Reliance Energy, VSNL, BHEL, Nalco and SBI. 

Tata Steel is up over 7% followed by VSNL up over 6%, Hindalco up over 4% and Reliance Energy up 3%

Top losers on the indices are Cipla, HCL Tech, Dr Reddys Labs, ONGC  and HDFC Bank. 

HCL Tech & Cipla are down 4%, followed by Dr Reddy's and ONGC.

Market trades in green amid volatility: Tata Steel up

The markets are trading in green amid volatility on the triple witching day. Also ahead there is SEBI's decision on participatory notes. Capital goods, metals and oil & gas stocks were attracting attention. IT, FMCG and auto stocks are subdued today.

At 12.11 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 148.45 points or 0.80% at 18661.36, and the Nifty up 21.75 points or 0.40% at 5517.90.

About 1871 shares have advanced, 1075 shares declined, and 109 shares are unchanged

Extra ordinary performance is by the broader markets. Midcap index is up over 1.5% and the smallcap index is up 1.75%.

BSE metal index is up over 3%, followed by auto, capital goods, oil & gas and bankex up around 1%

FMCG, IT and pharma indices are trading weak in the negative terrain.

Mkts trading flat; cap good, metal stocks in focus

The markets have been trading flat since opening today as the investors are playing with cautions ahead of SEBI's decision on participatory notes. Capital goods, metals and oil & gas stocks were attracting attention. IT, FMCG and auto stocks are subdued today.     

At 10.35 am, the Sensex is up 53.59 points or 0.29% at 18566.50, and the Nifty up 3.60 points or 0.07% at 5499.75. About 1848 shares have advanced, 1122 shares declined, and 84 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Hindalco at Rs 194.60 up 2.91%, BHEL at Rs 2,318 up 1.93% and SBI at Rs 1,942.10 up 1.79%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 615.20 down 2.34%, ONGC at Rs 1,083.50 down 2.2% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,482.90 down 1.58%. 

Top gainers on the Nifty are VSNL at Rs 542.90 up 3.40%, Hindalco at Rs 195.20 up 3.01% and Reliance Petro at Rs 195.30 up 2.95%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are NALCO at Rs 274.40 down 2.9%, ONGC at Rs 1,079.90 down 2.53% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,477 down 2.44%

Most active shares on BSE are Maytas Infra at Rs 564.70 with 3,063,297 shares, Reliance Petro at Rs 194.60 with 4,879,221 shares and Bharti Airtel at Rs 997.55 with  579,516 shares. 

Mkts open on quiet note: Wipro, HDFC down

The markets opened on quiet note today in line with its global peers. There was not much buying seen in the markets as the investors were seen playing with caution ahead of SEBI's decision on participatory notes. Its October series of f&o will be expiring today. Maytas Infra lists at Rs 519 versus its issue price of Rs 370.  

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up only 6 points at 18519 and Nifty was up 7 points at 5503. MJajor gainers in the early trade were Rel Comm, Reliance Energy, Cipla, ONGC, SBI, BHEL, TCS. However, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy's Lab, HDFC and Tata Motors lost their ground.  

Asian markets were trading firm today. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.39% or 406.48 points at 29,740.01, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.21% or 34.75 points at 16,393.14, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted advanced 1.11% or 104.47 points at 9,547.09, Singapore's Straits Times was up 0.69% or 25.28 points at 3,674.40 and South Korea's Seoul Composite surged 1.13% or 21.92 points at 1,955.28.

US markets: The Dow closed down just 0.98 points, or 0.01%, at 13,675.25.  The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3.71 points, or 0.24%, to 1,515.88, while the technology-dominated Nasdaq Composite Index lost 24.50 points, or 0.88%, to 2,774.76.
