Mkt ends near day's low: Oil & gas, power, bank down

The market ended near the day's low as heavy selling pressure was seen in during the final hour of trade. The cues from gobal peers were weak as most of Asia ended down. The top laggard was Taiwan down 3.5%, followed by Hang Seng down 3% and Taiwan down 2.5%. The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices. Selling was seen in stocks from bank, IT, oil and gas and banking space. Sensex was down nearly 300 points and Nifty was down 100 points by the close. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 9,375.94 up 0.4%. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 12,007.33 up 1%. Sensex was down 271.48 points or 1.33% at 20104.39, and the Nifty down 101.20 points or 1.64% at 6058.10. About 1950 shares have advanced, 1102 shares declined, and 38 shares are unchanged. The BSE Bankex was down 2% at 11,495.40. ICICI Bank, Andhra Bank, Centurion Bank, SBI, Oriental Bank moved downwards. The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1.2% at 20,061.96. Triveni Engg, Thermax, Jyoti Structure, BEML, Suzlon Energy closed lower. The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,765.56 down 0.1%. Maruti Suzuki, Tube Investment, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors closed lower. The BSE Metal Index closed at 19,767.72 up 0.6%. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa, Hindalco, Shree Precoated closed higher. The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,231.77 up 2%. Tata Tea, ITC, Bata India, Godrej Consumer closed higher. BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 12,867.24 down 2%. Essar Oil, GAIL, BPCL, Reliance Natura, Reliance Petro ended in red. The BSE IT Index was down 1.7% at 4,284.37. HCL Tech, Mphasis, Satyam, TCS, Patni Computer closed lower. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 21744.60 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 70156.51 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 10160.46 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 102061.57 crore. Market trades weak: Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bk down The frontline indices are trading weak with moderate losses but the strenght in the broader market continues. The cues from gobal peers were weak as most of Asia ended down. The top laggard was Taiwan down 3.5%, followed by Hang Seng down 3% and Taiwan down 2.5%. About 2013 shares have advanced, 1036 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged. ITC, M&M, Hindalco, Cipla, Dr Reddy's, Idea are among the top gainers on the indices. ITC is up nearly 4% followed by M&M and hindalco up 2.7% and 2.9% respectively. Oswal, Ispat, Ansal API, Praj Ind were among the midcap buzzers. Among the volume buzzers Mirza Int was up 15% and Gujarat Sidhee was up 13%. Top losers on the indices are NALCO, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel and HDFC. Bharti Airtel is down 5% followed by ICICI bank and Maruti Suzuki down over 2%. FMCG space was in focus today and the index was up over 1.5%. Major gainers in this sector were ITC, Tata Tea, Bata India and Godrej Consumer. Market slips: IT, oil & gas, bank stocks down The markets have lost some ground and have slipped in the red as selling is seen in index pivotals from IT, oil and gas and banking space. FMCG, metal and realty stocks were firm and were attracting alot of attention. Rupee was trading at 39.34 against US dollar. At 12.06 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 22.50 points or 0.11% at 20353.37, and the Nifty down 29.85 points or 0.48% at 6129.45. About 2303 shares have advanced, 746 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged. BSE FMCG index is up over 3% followed by metal, realty and auto are trading firm up over 1%. FMCG space was in focus today and the index was up over 3%. Major gainers in this sector were ITC, Tata Tea, Bata India and Godrej Consumer. Mkts trading flat; FMCG, metal, realty stocks up The markets were trading in green with modest gains as the frontliners were struggling in the early trade. However, the midcaps continue to march ahead and were outperforming the largecaps. FMCG, metal and realty stocks were firm and were attracting alot of attention. Market breadth was positive with over 950 stocks on the upper side on NSE and nearly 200 stocks were on the downside. Rupee was trading at 39.34 against US dollar. At 11.07 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 6.28 points or 0.03% at 20369.59, and the Nifty down 19.65 points or 0.32% at 6139.65. About 2305 shares have advanced, 733 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the Nifty are ITC at Rs 198.20 up 4.54%, Mah and Mah at Rs 807.50 up 2.20% and Idea Cellular at Rs 141.55 up 1.94%. Top losers on the Nifty are NALCO at Rs 436.55 down 3.41%, Bharti Airtel at Rs 1,030 down 2.72% and HDFC at Rs 3,054.90 down 1.84%. FMCG space was in focus today and the index was up over 2%. Major gainers in this sector were ITC at Rs 200.35 up Rs 5.95, Tata Tea at Rs Rs 925, Bata India at Rs 266.35 and Godrej Consumer at Rs 141.50. Mkts open on flat note; telecom, realty stocks firm The markets opened on flat note today on weak cues from the Asian peers. Nifty opened in green but slipped in red within few minutes of opening. Realty, power and telecom stocks were firm in the early trade. Kolte Patil developers got listed on the bourses today at Rs 211 versus its issue price of Rs 145. At 9:56 am, Sensex as up 39 points at 20,414 and Nifty was down 1 points at 6158. major gainers in the early trade were DLF, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Rel Energy, NTPC, Rel Comm, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Satyam, SBI, BHEL, M&M, Tata Steel. Asian markets were trading lower. Japan's Nikkei slipped 1.18% or 188.14 points at 15,744.12, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declnied 0.57% or 163.98 points at 28,357.08, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was down 0.89% or 75.53 points at 8,415.31, Singapore's Straits Times plunged 0.25% or 8.78 points at 3,540.47. However, South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 0.19% or 3.64 points at 1,931.09. US markets: Wall Street ends off days high; The Dow gained 41.13 points, or 0.31%, to 13,473.90. The Standard & Poor's 500 index shot up 8.94 points, or 0.61%, to 1,486.59. The Nasdaq composite index advanced 18.79 points, or 0.71%, to 2,671.14. Market cues:
