Mkt ends near day's high: Midcaps, smallcaps up

It was a good start to the week as the markets ended the day with good gains near the highest point. The uptrend continues after ending with hefty gains on Friday. Today the markets rallied despite some mixed cues from Asian peers. Asia which ended mixed, with Nikkie and Taiwan ending down. All the key BSE indices closed in green. Broader markets were doing exceptionally well outperforming the benchmark indices giving markets an excellent breadth. 

Heavy buying was seen in power, metal and oil & gas stocks. The beaten down sectors like auto and IT are also attracting decent attention today.

Relince Energy was up nearly 10%, followed by Wipro up over 7% and Reliance Communication up 6%. On the Nifty Tata Power was up nearly 9% followed by PNB up over 5%. Other gainers were TCS, Hindalco  and Maruti Suzuki.  

In the midcap space Essar Oil is up over 20%, followed by Videocon Ind & IFCI, Gitanjali Gems and Dish TV.

Hitachi Home, Blue Star, JK Cement, Shiv-Vani oil are the gainers on the smallcap index.

Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, HCL Tech, Hero Honda and HUL. 

Sensex was up 240.22 points or 1.24% at 19603.41, and the Nifty up 102.25 points or 1.77% at 5865.00.

About 2222 shares have advanced, 783 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 8,764.26 up 2.5%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 10,786.20 up 2.5%.

The BSE Bankex was flat at 10,865.28. Federal Bank, IOB, PNB, Oriental Bank, Andhra Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.7% at 19,962. Praj, AIA Engineering, Alstom Proj, Punj Loyd, Alfa Laval, Thermax Triveni Engg closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,546.58 up 1.4%.  Ashok Leyland, MRF, Bharat Forge, Mah and Mah, Bajaj Auto closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed was up 3%. Sterlie, Jindal Steel, JindalStainless, Tata Steel, SAIL, Hind Zinc closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,170.41 up 1%.  ITC, Dabur India, Marico, ITC, Bata India closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed up over 3.5% at 12,786.19. Essar Oil, Petronet LNG, BPCL, Reliance Natura, Reliance ended higher.

The BSE IT Index was at 4,254.05 up 1.3%.  Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Satyam, I-Flex Solution, TCS closed higher.

BSE Realty Index was up 1.2% at 10,755.75. Phoenix Mills, DLF, Omaxe, Ansal Propertie, Puravankara Pro closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 20311.65 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 54816.50 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 9270.39 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 84398.54 crore.

Markets trade strong: Midcaps, smallcaps outperform

The markets continue to trade strong without any signs of weakness despite some mixed cues from Asia which ended mixed, with Nikkie and Taiwan ending down. All the key BSE indices are trading in green. Broader markets are doing exceptionally well outperforming the benchmark indices giving markets an excellent breadth. 

At 14.31 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 253.57 points or 1.31% at 19616.76, and the Nifty up 105.10 points or 1.82% at 5867.85.

About 2261 shares have advanced, 749 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

Relince Energy has gained further and is up nearly 10%, followed by Wipro up over 6% and Reliance Communication up 5%. On the Nifty Tata Power was up nearly 9% followed by PNB up over 5%. Other gainers were TCS, Hindalco  and Maruti Suzuki.

Markets stable: Midcaps, smallcaps outperform

The markets are trading stable at the higher levels without any signs of weakness. Despite some mixed cues from Asia which ended mixed, with Nikkie and Taiwan ending down. All the key BSE indices are trading in green. Broader markets are doing exceptionally well outperforming the benchmark indices giving markets an excellent breadth. 

At 1.30 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 203.54 points or 1.05% at 19566.73, and the Nifty up 87.10 points or 1.51% at 5849.85.

About 2279 shares have advanced, 724 shares declined, and 77 shares are unchanged.

BSE Midcap index is up 2.4% and smallcap index up 2.6%. In the midcap space Essar Oil is up over 20%, followed by Videocon Ind & IFCI up over 12%, Gitanjali Gems up 7.5% and Dish TV up 10%.

Mkts trades firm: Rel Energy, Wipro top gainers

The markets are trading firm at the higher levels on heavy buying seen in power, metal and oil & gas stocks. Cues from Asia is mixed Jakarta and Shanghai are in green but trading lower are markets like Taiwan. Broader markets are doing exceptionally well outperforming the benchmark indices giving markets an excellent breadth.

At 12.15 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 203.74 points or 1.05% at 19566.93, and the Nifty up 83.00 points or 1.44% at 5845.75.

About 2276 shares have advanced, 734 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

BSE Midcap index is up 2.3% and smallcap index up 2.4%. In the midcap space Essar Oil is up over 17%, followed by Videocon Ind and Dish TV up 10%.

All the key BSE indices are trading in green. The beaten down sectors like auto and IT are also attracting decent attention today.

Top gainers on the indices, are Reliance Energy up 8%, Tata Power and Wipro up 7%, Hindalco up nearly 4% and Maruti Suzuki.

Mkts trading strong; power, metal stocks up

The markets are trading strong on the back of good amount of buying seen in the power, metal, oil and gas and consumer durable sectors. All the key BSE indices are trading in green. The beaten down sectors like auto and IT are also attracting decent attention today. BSE  smallcap and the midacaps have outperformed the frontliners.   

At 11.05 am, the Sensex is up 202.22 points or 1.04% at 19565.41, and the Nifty up 86.05 points or 1.49% at 5848.80. About 2236 shares have advanced, 760 shares declined, and 84 shares are unchanged.

Market breadth has been very appreciable since opening today coupled with higher volume. On NSE the advance decline ratio was 2:1.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance Energy at Rs 1,838 up 5.75%, Maruti Suzuki at Rs 1,037.55 up 2.49% and Wipro at Rs 470.70 up 2.26%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are Bharti Airtel at Rs 929 down 1.11%, ICICI Bank at Rs 1,175 down 0.81% and HUL at Rs 207 down 0.07%. 

Some of the most active counter on the bourses today have been Essar Oil, Reliance Petroleum, IDFC and Reliance Energy.

Mkts open on firm note; metal, power stocks strong

The markets opened on firm note today on account of good cues from the global markets. Power, metal and capital good stocks were in the limelight in the early trade. IT stocks were also attracting decent attention.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 166 points at 19529 and Nifty was up 55 points at 5818. Major gainers in the early trade were Rel Energy, Infosys, NTPC, Hindalco, BHEL, L&T, SBI, Tata Steel, IFCI and ACC.

Asian markets were trading firm. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.02% or 290.95 points at 28,934.56, Singapore's Straits Times surged 1.23% or 43.28 points at 3,564.55, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.39% or 33.79 points at 8,620.19, South Korea's Seoul Composite advanced 0.11% or 2.01 points at 1,908.01. However, Japan's Nikkei was down 0.26% or 40.84 points at 15,639.83.

Market cues:

  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 7,828 crore at Rs 85,182 crore, biggest ever single-day build-up
  • FIIs net sell USD 242.3 million in equity on Nov 29

  • Futures Open Interest up by Rs 5,004 crore, Options Open Interest up by Rs 2,824 crore
  • Stock Futures add 15 crore shares in Open Interest, 3 cr shares from new entrants
  • Nifty Futures add 2.5 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Open Interest PCR at 1.34 Vs 1.44
  • Nifty Puts add 18 lakh, Calls add 17 lakh shares in Open Interest
