Mkt ends near day's high: Metal, oil, realty up

The markets ended higher near the day's high amid a volatile session. The markets outperformed its Asian peers that ended weak. All the BSE sectors closed higher with realty, metal, oil indices leading the uptrend. Frontliners have outperformed the broader markets. But on weekly basis Sensex closed down 1.1% and Nifty was down 0.3%. Top gainers on the indices today were DLF, Jaiprakash Asso and Satyam, BPCL and Power Grid Corp. Sensex closed up 403.17 points or 2.63% at 15760.52, and the Nifty up 122.20 points or 2.64% at 4745.80. About 1337 shares have advanced, 1640 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,583.45 up 0.9%. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,079.50 up 0.1%. The BSE Bankex was up 3.1% at 8,323.09. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green. The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 13,579.94 up 2%. Suzlon, Reliance Infra, Siemens, Triveni Engineering closed higher. The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,539.07 up 0.08%. Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors closed higher. The BSE Metal Index closed at 20,020.22 up 0.4%. JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc closed higher. The BSE FMCG Index closed up 2.4% at 2,189.31. Colgate, ITC, Nestle, Dabur ended higher BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 13,974.30 up 0.4%. Reliance, BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Cairn, RPL, GAIL ended higher. The BSE IT Index was at 3,406.55 up 3%. HCL, Infosys, Tech mahindra, TCS, Tech Mahindra closed higher. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 13565.54 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 40184.57 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5884.77 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 59634.88 crore. Mkt trades near day's high: Metal, oil, realty up 3:33 pm: The markets have moved up and are trading near day's high. Trading in green are realty, metal, oil indices. However, selling pressure seen in select midcap, auto and pharma stocks. The cues were not very encouraging as most Asian markets ended weak. Frontliners have outperformed the broader markets. At 3.33 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 283.06 points or 1.84% at 15640.41, and the Nifty up 92.05 points or 1.99% at 4715.65. About 1138 shares have advanced, 1844 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the Sensex are DLF at Rs 638.40 up 5.22%, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 229.90 up 4.93% and Satyam at Rs 377.50 up 3.69%. Top gainers on the Nifty are DLF at Rs 641.25 up 5.77%, BPCL at Rs 428 up 4.91% and Power Grid Corp at Rs 93.55 up 4.58%. Most active shares on BSE are RNRL, Reliance and Reliance Petroleum. Mkts still in green but off highs: Midcap down; Realty up2.44 pm: The markets are still in green but are off the highs on account of selling pressure seen in select midcap, auto and pharma stocks. Mkts trade higher: Metal, oil, realty stocks surge 2:11 pm: Tha markets continue to trade higher as BSE metal and oil & gas indices are seeing sustained buying interest. Except pharma and auto all other BSE sectoral indices are trading in green. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 26 stocks are trading in green. At 14.11 pm, the Sensex is up 206.63 points or 1.35% at 15563.98, and the Nifty up 50.30 points or 1.09% at 4673.90. About 1210 shares have advanced, 1749 shares declined, and 95 shares are unchanged. Top gainers on the Sensex are DLF at Rs 638.40 up 5.22%, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 229.90 up 4.93% and Satyam at Rs 377.50 up 3.69%. The upward movement is seen depite Asian markets ending weak. Frontliners have outperformed the broader markets. All the BSE sector indices are in green. Realty, metal, oil indices are among the gainers. At 12.35 pm, the Sensex is up 241.41 points or 1.57% at 15598.76, and the Nifty up 78.50 points or 1.70% at 4702.10. About 1192 shares have advanced, 1776 shares declined, and 86 shares are unchanged. New index entrants Power Grid is up nearly 5%, followed by JP Associates up over 4%. Satyam and DLF are up over 4%. Tata Motors amd Hindalco up over 3%. Sterlite, Unitech, ITC, NTPC, Siemens, Cairn, L&T, SAIL, ONGC, Ranbaxy, Tata Steel, Infosys, HUL are among the other gainers. Bharti, Maruti, Ambuja Cements, Tata Power, Hero Honda, BHEL, SBI, TCS, Suzlon, Nalco are among the laggards. 10:48 am: The markets are trading in green amid volatility. Both the Sensex and Nifty are in green near the day's high. Both the Sensex and Nifty are up over 1% each. Nifty is nearing 4700 levels and Sensex is moving towards 15,600 mark.The upward movement is seen depit Asian markets trading weak. In the opening trades Nifty was holding 4600 levels. At 10.04 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 130.16 points or 0.85% at 15487.51, and the Nifty up 14.95 points or 0.32% at 4638.55. About 959 shares have advanced, 2026 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged. On the primary market front, Bajaj Holdings listed at Rs 1000. Among the gainers were Sterlite, Unitech, ITC, NTPC, Power Grid, Siemens, Cairn, L&T, SAIL, ONGC, Ranbaxy, Tata Steel, Infosys. HUL, DLF. Bharti, BHEL, SBI, TCS, Suzlon, Nalco are among the laggards. Essar Oil, V Guard, Geojit Financial, Reliance Capital were among the midcap losers. Asian markets were off early highs. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.16% or 35.50 points at 22,337.14. Japan's Nikkei 225 average reversed its gained 0.50% or 12.60 points at 12,370.84. Straits Times jumped 0.40%. Seoul Composite was down 0.96%. Taiwan Weighted is down 0.41%. However, Shanghai Composite lost 1.07% or 42.568 points at 3,928.689. Jakarta Composite fell 0.57%. Dow was up 35 pts; as S&P predicted an end to subprime mortgage writedowns. Market cues:
