Mkt ends higher: ONGC, Tata Motors, GAIL, HPCL up

The markets ended near the highest point of the day with heavy buying seen in late trade. Cues from global peers were encouraging with most of the Asia ending in green and Europe opening higher. Broader markets have outperformed the frontliners giving markets positive breadth. Frontliners like ONGC, Tata Motors, M&M and HPCL ended firm. Barring IT all the BSE sector indices ended in green.

Steel and energy stocks are the flavour of the day. GAIL, HPCL, BPCL were trading strong. Even auto stocks were looking smart in today's trade. However, select IT and FMCG counters were under pressure.

On the Sensex the top gainers were Tata Motors, ONGC, Cipla & M&M were top gainers.

Top gainers on the Nifty were GAIL, HPCL, Sun Pharma and ONGC. 

Among the other buzzing stocks were Broadcast Initiatives, WWIL, Hind Motors, FDC, Kajari, Soma Textiles, Man Aluminium and Escorts.

Infosys, ITC, Satyam, HCL TEch and VSNL were among the top laggards on the indices. 

Ispat Industries, Mundra Project, Wire & Wireless and Reliance Petroleum were some of the most active counters in todays trade.

Sensex was up 208.57 points or 1.07% at 19738.07, and the Nifty up 81.65 points or 1.39% at 5940.00.

About 2273 shares have advanced, 755 shares declined, and 56 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 9,052.83 up 2%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 11,271.96 up 2.9%.

The BSE Bankex was up 2%.  Union Bank, Canara Bank, Karnataka Bank, IOB, Allahabad Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1% at 20,403.26.  Astra Microwave, AIA Engineering, Alstom Projects, Triveni Engg, Gammon India closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,691.81 up 1%.  Hind Motors, Apolo Escorts, Tata Motors, Punj Tractors, Bharat Forge closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed was up 1%. Jindal Saw, Jindal Steel, Hindalco, Nalco, Hind Zinc closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,194.35 up 1%. Nestle, Bata India, Dabur India, Britannia, GlaxoSmith Con, P and G closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed up over 2%. GAIL, HPCL, ONGC, Reliance Natura, Essar Oil, Reliance Petro, Petronet LNG ended higher.

The BSE IT Index was at 4,232.03 down 0.4%.

Markets gain further ground: Pharma, oil & gas stocks up

About 2295 shares have advanced, 727 shares declined, and 61 shares are unchanged.

Market trades steady: Midcaps, smallcaps outperform

The markets are trading steady with moderate gains on account of some positive cues from global peers. Most of the Asia ended in green and Europe has opened higher. Broader markets have outperformed the frontliners giving markets positive breadth. Frontliners like ONGC, Tata Motors, M&M and HPCL are trading firm. Barring IT all the BSE sector indices are in green.

At 13.52 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 122.36 points or 0.63% at 19651.86, and the Nifty up 53.20 points or 0.91% at 5911.55.

About 2263 shares have advanced, 752 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.

Mkts still in green: Tata Motors, ONGC top gainers

The markets are still in green with moderate gains on susatined buying support from frontliners like ONGC, Tata Motors, M&M and HPCL. Steel and energy stocks are the flavour of the day. At 1.08 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 98.86 points or 0.51% at 19628.36, and the Nifty up 41.05 points or 0.70% at 5899.40.

About 2191 shares have advanced, 809 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.

Mkts give up some gains; oil & gas, autos in focus

The markets have given up some of its gain but were still trading strong on sustained buying in the oil & gas, capital good and auto stocks. However, the IT and FMCG counters were under pressure. Midcap and smallcap stocks were still trading firm and were outperforming the frontliners.

At 12.03 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 86.10 points or 0.44% at 19615.60, and the Nifty up 32.65 points or 0.56% at 5891. About 2077 shares have advanced, 922 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty are GAIL at Rs 461.10 up 4.93%, HPCL at Rs 304.90 up 4.70% and ONGC at Rs 1,193.35 up 3.07%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are Sterlite Inds at Rs 1,046.90 down 1.76%, VSNL at Rs 628 down 1.71%  and HCL Tech at Rs 307.35 down 1.4%.

Mkts gain further ground; auto stocks in focus

The markets have gained further on the back of heavy buying witnessed in the consumer durables, metal, oil & gas, capital goods and auto stocks. All the key BSE indices were trading in green. Midcaps and smallcaps have outperformed the frontline stocks. BSE midcap and smallcap index were trading with over 1.5% gain.

Market breadth has improved further with over 825 stocks on the advancing side and around 300 stocks on the decline side. Volume has also been impressive so far. Rupee was quoting at 39.41 against US dollar.

At 10.35 am, the Sensex is up 180.11 points or 0.92% at 19709.61, and the Nifty up 50.30 points or 0.86% at 5908.65. About 2298 shares have advanced, 709 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Motors at Rs 765 up 3.04%, Mah and Mah at Rs 788 up 2.09% and ONGC at Rs 1,178 up 1.84%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are Wipro at Rs 494.35 down 0.48%, Infosys at Rs 1,607.05 down 0.46% and ITC at Rs 191.50 down 0.29%.

Mkts open in green; oil & gas, metal stocks gain

The markets opened with modest gains today in line with its Asian peers. Oil & gas, metal and power stocks were firm in the early trade. Market breadth was positive with good volume.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 93 points at 19622 and Nifty was up 29 points at 5888. Major gainers in the early trade were SAIL, GAIL, NTPC, Rel Energy, BPCL, HPCL, ICICI Bank, Rel Comm, Zee Entertainment, MTNL, Tata Steel and ONGC.

Asian markets were trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.35% or 54.26 points at 15,425.93, Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.61% or 21.60 points at 3,506.27, South Korea's Seoul Composite declined 0.07% or 1.43 points at 1,916.40, However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.05% or 14.75 points at 28,894.34 and Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.28%or 23.90 points at 8,675.18.

US markets: Wall Street ended lower for second day. It traded in a narrow range through out the day. Dow Jones plunged 65.8 points at 13248.7 and Nasdaq slipped 17.3 points at 2619.8.

Market cues:

  • FIIs net buy USD 28.4 million in equity on Dec 3
  • MFs net buy Rs 449 crore in equity on Dec 3
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 2849 crore at Rs 92,969 crore

F&O cues:

  • Futures Open Interest up by Rs 1288 crore, Options Open Interest up by Rs 1560 crore 
  • Stock Futures add 4.5 cr shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Futures shed 3 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Open Interest Put-Call ratio at 1.27 vs 1.32 
  • Nifty Puts, Calls add 9 lakh shares each in Open Interest
  • Nifty 5900 Put adds 3 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 5700 Put adds 2.3 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 6100 Call adds 5.4 lakh shares in Open Interest
