Mkt ends higher: Bank, FMCG, metal stocks gain

The markets ended higher with strong buying seen in frontline stocks. Technology, telecom, FMCG, banking, oil, realty and pharma stocks were among the top gainers. Midcaps and small cap indices were relative underperformers but manged to close in green. Capital goods were under lot of pressure and continued to underperform in today's session.

ICICI Bk, Wipro, SBI were among the top gainers up over 5.5% each. Bharti Airtel, Suzlon, ITC, Wipro, Ranbaxy Labs, Satyam and Tata Communication were other gainers on the bourses while Maruti, BHEL and ABB were top losers.

Sensex closed up 413.96 points or 2.70% at 15757.08, and the Nifty up 114.20 points or 2.46% at 4761.20.

About 1574 shares have advanced, 1116 shares declined, and 381 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,344.72 up 1.3%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,777.94 up 0.8%.

The BSE Bankex closed at 7,904.09 up 4%. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green.

The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 13,465.56 up 1%. Suzlon, Reliance Infra, Siemens, Triveni Engineering closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,433.98 up 1.3%. Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 13,811.56 up 3%. SAIL, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed up 4% at 2,384.57. Colgate, ITC, Nestle, Dabur ended higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,550.12 up 2.6%.  BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Reliance Natura, GAIL ended higher.

The BSE IT Index was at 3,748.57 up 1.7%. HCL, Infosys, Tech mahindra, TCS, Tech Mahindra closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 12015.33 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32302.8 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4953.14 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 49271.27 crore. 

Mkt trades near day's high: ICICI Bk, Wipro, SBI surge

It has been a day of strength for the frontliners as they are trading near the high point of the day. Technology, telecom, FMCG, banking, oil, realty and pharma stocks are witnessing buying interest. Midcaps and small cap indices have gained some strength and are trading in green. Capital goods have been under lot of pressure and continue to underperform in today's session.

Sensex is up nearly 500 points and Nifty is up 150 points.

At 14.34 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 506.22 points or 3.30% at 15849.34, and the Nifty up 139.40 points or 3.00% at 4786.40.

About 1561 shares have advanced, 1093 shares declined, and 417 shares are unchanged.

ICICI Bk, Wipro, SBI are among the top gainers up over 5.5% each.

Bharti Airtel, Suzlon, ITC, Wipro, Ranbaxy Labs, Satyam and Tata Communication were other gainers on the bourses while Maruti, BHEL and ABB were top losers.

Technology, FMCG, telecom, banking and oil stocks are in huge demand. The Bankex is up 4%, BSE IT Index was up 2.7%, FMCG up 4%, TEck up 2.6% and Bankex up 2%. BSE Oil & Gas, Realty and Healthcare indices were up over 1%.

On the primary market front, Sita Shree Food Products was trading at Rs 42, with volumes of 1,21,51,058 shares.

Mkts trade firm: FMCG, IT, telecom, bank stocks gain

The markets have held out their gains and are trading strong as technology, telecom, FMCG, banking, oil, realty and pharma stocks are witnessing buying interest. Frontliners are trading with hefty gains with Bharti Airtel and Ranbaxy among the top gainers. Midcaps and small cap indices have gained some strength and are trading in green.

Capital goods have been under lot of pressure and continue to underperform in today's session.

At 12.56 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 360.60 points or 2.35% at 15703.72, and the Nifty up 112.70 points or 2.43% at 4759.70.

About 1402 shares have advanced, 1190 shares declined, and 479 shares are unchanged.

Bharti Airtel, Suzlon, ITC, Wipro, Ranbaxy Labs, Satyam and Tata Communication were top gainers on the bourses while Maruti, Ambuja Cements, Reliance Energy and ABB were top losers.

BEML, BHEL, Sita Shree Food, L&T and Reliance Industries are most active counters.

Mkts strong: BSE IT up 3%, FMCG, TEck, Bankex up over 2%

The markets have surged higher and trading strong as technology, telecom, FMCG, banking, oil, realty and pharma stocks are witnessing buying interest. Midcaps and small cap stocks are also trading in green. Market breadth has improved, 613 shares advanced while 506 shares declined on the NSE. On the global front, Asian markets are trading with smart gains.

At 11.02 hrs IST, the Sensex was up 299.49 points or 1.95% at 15642.61, and the Nifty up 86.55 points or 1.86% at 4733.55. About 988 shares have advanced, 1549 shares declined, and 534 shares are unchanged.

Wipro, Ranbaxy Labs, Satyam and Tata Communication were top gainers on the bourses while Maruti, Ambuja Cements, Reliance Energy and ABB were top losers.

BEML, BHEL, Sita Shree Food, L&T and Reliance Industries are most active counters.

Mkts trading with good gains

The markets are trading with good gains as IT, FMCG, oil & gas and banking indices witness buying interest. However, the market breadth is not positive out of BSE 30 stocks only 5 stocks are trading in green.

At 10.30 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 194.71 points or 1.27% at 15537.83, and the Nifty up 53.65 points or 1.15% at 4700.65.

About 804 shares have advanced, 1748 shares declined, and 519 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Ranbaxy Labs at Rs 469.85 up 5.15%, Satyam at Rs 438.75 up 2.50% and TCS at Rs 898 up 1.36%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Wipro at Rs 431.50 up 4%, Tata Comm at Rs 539 up 3.65% and Satyam at Rs 439 up 3.40%.

Mkts choppy: Capital goods, power stocks down

The markets have lost early gains and turned into volatile trade on the back of continued selling pressure in capital goods, metal, power, realty and auto stocks. Midcap and small cap stocks also slipped into the red. Market breadth is also negative, nearly 1:2. On the global front, Asian markets are trading higher.

At 10:15 am, the Sensex was up 56 points at 13,599 and the Nifty up 18  points at 4,664. On the NSE, 330 shares have advanced while 618 shares declined. About 1007 shares have advanced, 1989 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged on the BSE.

Top losers on the bourses were BHEL, L&T, HDFC and ABB while gainers - Ranbaxy, HUL, Wipro and ICICI Bank.

Sita Shree Food, BHEL, RNRL, L&T and Reliance Capital were most active shares.

Capital goods stocks have continued to remain under selling pressure, the BSE Capital Goods Index down 1.51%. Power stocks also slipped.

On the primary market front, Sita Shree Food Products was trading at Rs 43.15, up by Rs 13.15 as against issue price of Rs 30. The volumes traded stood at 7,933,815 on BSE.

Mkts open higher on positive Asian cues

The markets have opened higher with marginal gains mirroring positive Asian cues and due to buying interest in capital goods, power, oil, banking, pharma and metal stocks.

At 9:56 am, the Sensex was up 123 points at 15,466 and the Nifty up 42 points at 4,688. The CNX  Midcap was up 33 points at 6140.

ICICI Bank, BHEL, SAIL, NTPC, RPL, Dr Reddy's, Wipro and Infosys were major gainers in early trade.

TCS won new multi-year deal with Chrysler LLC. The stock opened higher.

On the primary market front, Sita Shree Food Products listed at Rs 37 as against its issue price of Rs 30.

Asian markets were trading firm. Japan's Nikkei gained 0.43% or 57.17 points at 13,350.39. Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.25% or 59.85 points at 24,324.48. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.83% or 71.60 points at 8,667.94. South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 0.45% or 7.96 points at 1,774.45. However, Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.75% or 23.61 points at 3,131.95.

US markets closed a strong week on a dull note, ending the day flat. Non-farm payrolls fell 80,000 more than expected as unemployment rate increased to 5.1% from 4.8%. Dow ended 17 points down at 12609 while the Nasdaq shut shop at 2371, up 8 points.

  • MFs net sell Rs 68.6 cr in equity
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 875 crore at Rs 53,289 crore

  • Futures Open Interest down by Rs 478 crore and Options Open Interest up by Rs 1,353 crore
  • Nifty Futures add 10.7 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Open Int Put-Call ratio at 1.12 Vs 1.26
  • Nifty Puts add 5 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Calls add 20.7 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 4800 Put adds 1.8 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 4100 Put adds 1.6 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 4800 Call adds 4.4 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 5000 Call adds 2.9 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty 4700 Call adds 2.8 lakh shares in Open Interest
