The markets ended the day flat with a negative bias. Nifty ended flat and Sensex closed in red with aloss of over 100 points. Buying support was provided by energy stocks from oil & gas energy space. Oil and gas pivotals like ONGC and Reliance Petroleum were among the top gainers. Power major NTPC and Reliance Energy were the top gainers. However, IT, pharma, auto, bank and FMCG stocks ended weak.
Sensex was down 120.10 points or 0.59% at 20345.20, and the Nifty down 0.85 points or 0.01% at 6178.55.
About 1597 shares have advanced, 1307 shares declined, and 20 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended flat at 10,056.87.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended flat at 13,896.71.
The BSE Bankex was down 1.7% at 11,670.48. Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Centurion Bank, IOB, Allahabad Bank moved downwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1% at 19,530.20. Greaves Cotton, Astra Microwave, Carborundum, Bharat Elec, Jyoti Structure closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,729.57 down 0.6%. Tube Investment, Apollo Tyres, Mah and Mah, Hind Motors, Punj Tractors closed lower.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 19,998.17 down 1%. sail, Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Hindalco, Sesa Goa, Tata Steel closed lower.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,380.01 down 1%. ITC, Godrej Consumer, Tata Tea, Nestle, Bata India closed lower.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 13,602.26 up 1.6%. HPCL, Petronet LNG, BPCL, Reliance Natura, ONGC ended in green.
BSE power index closed at 4,806.12 up 3%. Torrent Power, NTPC, Reliance Energy, Tata Power, Power Grid Corp, Crompton Greave ended in green.
The BSE IT Index was down 2% at 4,363.63. TCS, Satyam, Infosys, Financial Tech, Tech Mahindra, I-Flex Solution, Wipro, Mphasis closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 24667.65 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 70651.63 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 11645.94 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 106965.22 crore.
Markets lacklustre: Rel Energy, ONGC, NTPC up
The markets are trading lacklustre and are trading a range. The cues from Europe and Asia are not very encouraging as Europe is trading lower and Asia ended in red. Oil and gas pivotals like ONGC and Reliance Petroleum were among the top gainers. Power major Reliance Energy is the top gainer followed by NTPC. The strength comes in despite some weak Asian cues. The broader markets continue to hog the limelight. Bothe BSE Midcap and smallcap index are in green. However, IT, bank and FMCG stocks are trading weak.
At 2.51 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 129.38 points or 0.63% at 20335.92, and the Nifty up 3.55 points or 0.06% at 6182.95.
About 1566 shares have advanced, 1331 shares declined, and 25 shares are unchanged.

Mkts open on a weak note mirroring global cues
Markets have opened on weak note mirroring negative Asian and Wall Street cues and due to selling pressure in metal, oil, auto, technology and power stocks.
At 9:57 am, the Sensex was down 93 points at 20372 and the Nifty down 27 points at 6151.
Reliance Petro, Reliance, NTPC, SAIL, ITC, Tata Motors, Unitech, TCS, Hero Honda and Bharti Airtel were losers on the bourses.
