Mkt ends flat amid choppiness: IT, realty down; smallcap up

The markets ended the day flat amid a very choppy session. Most of the indices ended flat to negative. However buying was seen in smallcap stocks which gave positive breath to the markets. Among the global indices, Asia closed mixed today and Europe was trading higher. IT, oil, metal and realty are among the top laggards. However bankex was marginally in positive. Trading firm were select sugar and fertiliser stocks. M&M, Reliance Energy, Bajaj Auto, Siemens, GAIL, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank and Nalco were among the top gainers on the indices. Tata Motors, ITC, ONGC, Idea Cellular, DLF, BHEL, Sterilte Ind and HCL Tech are among the top frontline losers. Reliance pack stocks are among the most active stocks on the bourses. The ADAG stocks are hogging all the limelight after the bonus issue news. Reliance Power is holding rock solid at Rs 411 with 11,232,762 shares traded. Sensex closed down 67.20 points or 0.37% at 18048.05, and the Nifty down 26.00 points or 0.49% at 5276.90. About 1951 shares have advanced, 1009 shares declined, and 60 shares are unchanged. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,641.48 up 0.7%. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,755.35 up 1.4%. The BSE Bankex ended at 10,944.85 up 0.5%. Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Oriental Bank, Allahabad Bank moved upwards. The BSE Capital Goods Index closed down 0.5% at 16,322.65. Triveni Engg, Suzlon Energy, Alstom Projects, Praj Industries, Punj Lloyd , ABB closed lower. The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,789.13 up 0.4%. Escorts, TVS Motor, Amtek Auto, Cummins, Bajaj Auto closed higher. The BSE Metal Index closed at 16,247.20 up 0.5%. Hind Zinc, Shree Precoated, Mah Seamless, Jindal Steel, Jindal Saw, JindalStainless closed lower. The BSE FMCG Index closed up 2% at 2,258.26. Colgate, ITC, Bata India, Godrej Consumer, HUL, GlaxoSmith Con closed higher. BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 11,172.91 down 1%. GAIL, PCL, ONGC, ONGC ended in red. The BSE IT Index was down 1.2% at 3,829.24. I-Flex Solution, Patni Computer, Financial Tech, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Infosys closed lower. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 10904.87 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32416.67 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4951.09 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 48272.63 crore. Mkt trades flat The markets are still trading lower with selling pressure in realty, technology, power, oil, capital goods and auto stocks. However, midcaps and small cap indices have recovered a bit and trading in the green. The market breadth is still positive as 1827 shares have advanced, 1125 shares declined and 68 shares are unchanged. Among the global indices, Asia closed mixed today. Europe is trading higher. At 14.06 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 113.88 points or 0.63% at 18001.37, and the Nifty down 34.45 points or 0.65% at 5268.45. Most of the BSE indices are in red. ONGC, Unitech, Sterlite, Tata Communication were among the laggards Adlabs, RNRL, Geojit Financials, Reliance Power were among the other gainersl.
