Markets slip in late trade: Midcaps, smallcaps outperform

It started as a good day for markets but the frontliners failed to hold their gains at the higher levels and ended near the lowest point of the day. The rally in the midcaps and smallcaps continued and the market breadth was significantly positive.

Nifty Junior had blown out the lights and the index was up over 4%. Midcap index is up 2.7% and smallcap index is up 3%. The rally was seen despite some sell off seen in Asia markets.

Mukta Arts, Manugraph Ind, Rohit Ferro Tec, Gwalior Chem, Suryalakshmi Co were the smallcap performers locked in upper circuit each up 20%.

Among the block deals Centurion BoP, Reliance Infra and Suzlon Energy saw some block deal.

Auto, power, realty, cement and metal stocks were buzzing.

Gainers in the midcap space were Exide Industrie, Nirma, FDC, Sun Pharma Adv, Vijaya Bank, Centurion Bank, Alok Industries, Blue Dart, UB Holdings.

Midcap banking space was also very active and is trading with good gains. Centyrion BoP was up over 14% and Vijaya Bank up over 13%.

Among the frontliners Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Cipla, Siemens, Suzlon Energy were the top gainers.

Bank pivotals like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were seeing some profit booking along with the oil refinery duo of BPCL and HFCL. FMCG major ITC was also trading weak.

Sensex was down 65.00 points or 0.33% at 19633.36, and the Nifty up 0.80 points or 0.01% at 5907.65.

About 2305 shares have advanced, 715 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 8,730.82 up 2.6%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 10,672.89 up 2.8%.

The BSE Bankex was down 1% at 10,920.67. Top losers were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI. Midcap bank stocks were on fire with CBoP up 14%, Vijaya Bank up 13.8%.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1% at 20,806.42. Triveni Engg, AIA Engineering, Siemens, Crompton Greave, Thermax, Punj Lloyd closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,413.24 up 2.5%. Apollo Tyres, Escorts, TVS Motor, Exide Ind, Ashok Leyland closed higher.TVS Motor up 12%, Escorts up 12%, Ashok Leyland up 6.7%, LML locked at 5%.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 17,668.86 up 1%. Jindal Steel, JindalStainless, Tata Steel, SAIL, Hind Zinc closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,224.86 down 0.2%. ITC and GlaxoSmith Cons were each down over 3%.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat at 12,467.50. HPCL, BPCL, IOC, Reliance Petro ended lower but Essar Oil up 6%, Chennai up 4.3%.

The BSE IT Index was at 4,634.64 up 0.4%.  Tech Mahindra, I-Flex Solution, Patni Computer, HCL Tech closed higher.

Sugar stocks saw heavy buying; Balrampur was up 11%, Triveni up 19%, Bajaj Hindusthan up 6%

Total market turnover at Rs 78,490 crore Versus Rs 89,336 crore in last trading session.

Market off day's high: Midcaps, smallcaps rally

The markets are off day's high on account of some profit booking at higher levels. The frontliners are flat but the rally in the midcaps and smallcap continues.

At 14.45 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 13.66 points or 0.07% at 19712.02, and the Nifty up 15.10 points or 0.26% at 5921.95.

About 2360 shares have advanced, 659 shares declined, and 46 shares are unchanged.

Volumes have also picked up and the market breadth was significantly positive with 7:1 in favour of advancing stocks on NSE.

Markets steady: Midcaps, smallcaps on fire

At 13.24 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 77.09 points or 0.39% at 19775.45, and the Nifty up 44.25 points or 0.75% at 5951.10.

About 2398 shares have advanced, 618 shares declined, and 49 shares are unchanged.

Volumes have also picked up and the market breadth was significantly positive with 7:1 in favour of advancing stocks on NSE.

Markets trade higher: Nifty Junior up 3%

The markets have picked up some momentum again and are trading higher. Small is looking beautiful today as heavy action can be seen in midcap and smallcap space. Both the indices are trading at life time highs. Volumes have also picked up and the market breadth was significantly positive with 7:1 in favour of advancing stocks on NSE. 

Nifty Juniors is up 3% indicating a broader market rally. Midcap index is up 2.3% and smallcap index is up 2.7%. The rally is seen despite some sell off seen in Asia markets.

At 12.16 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 124.06 points or 0.63% at 19822.42, and the Nifty up 60.55 points or 1.03% at 5967.40.

About 2372 shares have advanced, 639 shares declined, and 54 shares are unchanged.

Mkts give up some early gains; smallcaps outperform

The markets have given up some of its early gains as some profit booking was seen in the fronline counters at higher levels. Midcaps and smallcaps continue to outperform the frontliners. Volume has been impressive till now and the market breadth was significantly positive with 7:1 in favour of advancing stocks on NSE. 

The beaten down sectors in the past like auto, FMCG and pharma are in the limelight and are holding up significantly. Rupee was quoting at 39.29 against US dollar. Nymex crude has also declined marginally.  Power and realty stocks are also trading strong.

At 10.55 am, the Sensex is up 65.68 points or 0.33% at 19764.04, and the Nifty up 30.70 points or 0.52% at 5937.55. About 2353 shares have advanced, 653 shares declined, and 59 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Hindalco at Rs 209.90 up 3.02%, ACC at Rs 1,069 up 2.87% and NTPC at Rs 271.45 up 2.67%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are BPCL at Rs 422.25 down 2.75%, TCS at Rs 976.90 down 0.61% and Hero Honda at Rs 694 down 0.57%

Mkts open with gap up; power, FMCG stocks up

The markets opened with gap up on the back of strong cues from the US markets, however the Asian cues were not very encouraging today. Buying was seen across the sectors in the early trade today.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 270 points at 19971 and Nifty was up 71 points at 5968. Major gainers in the early trade were Rel Energy, RPL, Essar Oil, ACC, NTPC, ITC, Hindalco, MTNL, ICICI Bank, HUL. 

Asian markets: Asian markets mostly rose today, boosted by a higher close on Wall Street. Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 0.43% or 117.39 points at 27,731.82, Japan's Nikkei gained 0.29% or 43.21 points at 15,197.82, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.29% or 25.83 points at 8,790.65, Singapore's Straits Times was up 0.44% or 15.01 points at 3,455.97 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,925.39.
