The markets traded rangebound through out the day amid volatility today and ended on flat note. It was a low participation day as the traders and investors played with caution before the December F&O expiry. IT stocks were the star performers in todays trade, however the metal, realty and banking stocks remained quite volatile. Capital goods, FMCG and oil & gas and power stocks were the laggards.
Market breadth remained narrow but positive for most part of the day and the volume was relatively lower. It was yet another bad day for the midcaps and smallcaps which underperformed the frontline counters.
Sensex ended up 70.61 points or 0.37% at 19162.57, and the Nifty closed up 15.35 points or 0.27% at 5766.50. On BSE, about 1265 shares advanced, 1796 shares declined, and 37 shares were unchanged and on NSE, 484 stocks were on the advancing side and 781 stocks were on the downside. BSE midcap index ended in red with 0.6% cut at 9025.54 and BSE smallcap was down 0.86% at 11813.32.
BSE auto index ended in green up 0.28% at 5541.26. Tata Motors, Exide Inds, M&M were top gainers. BSE IT index closed with huge gain of over 3.34% at 4320.63. Satyam, Infosys, and TCS were top gainers in the IT counters. Metal index was up 0.39% at 18273. Shree precoated, SAIL and Jindal Steel were top gainers in the metals space. BSE realty and pharma indices ended flat at 11614.08 and 4242.53 levels respectively.
BSE bankex was down 0.24% at 10738.59. Centurion bank, IOB and bank Of baroda were the top losers in the banking space. BSE capital goods index was down 0.91% at 18725.69. Triveni Eng, Gammon India and Suzlon India were among top losers. BSE oil & gas index was down 0.28% at 12246.04. Essar Oil, RNRL and Petronet LNG were top losers. BSE power index was down 0.27% at 4211.32. Suzlon, ABB and Areva T&D were top losers in the power space.
Today turnover: On BSE cash, the turnover was at Rs 6225 cr, NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14205.90 crore and NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 73067.55 cr. The total turnover stood at Rs 93498.45.
Mkts rangebound with lower volume; IT, metals strong
The markets seems to be in consolidation phase and nothing much bas been happening today. Sensex and Nifty were trading rangebound with modest gains. IT and metal stocks were still maintaining their lead and the capital good, FMCG and banking stocks were still reeling under pressure.
Market breadth has drifted in red with nearly 700 stocks on the declining side on NSE whereas over 500 stocks on the advancing side. It has been low participation day for the markets and volume so far were not very impressive.
At 2:20 pm, the Sensex is up 114.72 points or 0.60% at 19206.68, and the Nifty up 31.75 points or 0.55% at 5782.90. About 1488 shares have advanced, 1563 shares declined, and 47 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Satyam at Rs 423 up 4.51%, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,963 up 4.34% and Infosys at Rs 1,709.70 up 4.29%.
Top losers on the Nifty are GlaxoSmithKline at Rs 1,020 down 5.35%, Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,839 down 3.26% and ABB at Rs 1,455.10 down 2.91%.
Technology stocks gained nearly 3% today, stocks like Mphasis up 4.8%, Satyam up 4.2%, Infosys up 3.6%, Tech Mahindra up 2.4% and HCL Tech up 2.06%.
Mkts choppy; IT gains, Cap Goods, Oil down
The market has been consolidating from last two days and that still continues. It was witnessing choppy trade on the back buying in technology and realty stocks while selling in capital goods and oil stocks.
At 13.19 IST, the Sensex was up 74 points at 19167 and the Nifty up 3.6 points at 5754. About 1522 shares have advanced, 1526 shares declined, and 50 shares are unchanged.
Midcaps and small caps stocks were trading lower today. The BSE Midcap Index was down .024% and Small Cap down 0.44%.
Top gainers on the bourses were Reliance Energy, Satyam, Infosys and Dr Reddy's Labs while losers - Cipla, BHEL, ITC, GSK Pharma, Suzlon and ABB.
IFCI, Reliance Energy, Reliance Industries and Ispat Industries were the most active counters on the bourses.
Technology stocks gained nearly 3% today, stocks like Mphasis up 4.8%, Satyam up 4.2%, Infosys up 3.6%, Tech Mahindra up 2.4% and HCL Tech up 2.06%.
Mkts stable with good gains; IT stocks in focus
The markets were trading stable with modest gains for some time. IT, realty and auto stocks continue trade strong, but the capital goods, FMCG, durable and power stocks were still subdued. Market breadth were still very narrow however in positive and the volume so has been quite impressive. Midcap and smallcap stocks were still reeling under prssure.
At 12.15 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 134.26 points or 0.70% at 19226.22, and the Nifty up 26.45 points or 0.46% at 5777.60. About 1645 shares have advanced, 1396 shares declined, and 56 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 421.50 up 4.32%, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,954.80 up 3.84% and Infosys at Rs 1,693.35 up 3.37%.
Top losers on the Sensex Cipla at Rs 212.55 down 1.3%, BHEL at Rs 2,378.50 down 0.91% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,646 down 0.66%.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Satyam at Rs 421.10 up 4.04%, Reliance Energy at Rs 1,955.10 up 3.92% and Dr. Reddys Labs at Rs 725.30 up 3.78%.
Top losers on the Nifty Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,820 down 4.26%, VSNL at Rs 693.10 down 3.23%, ABB at Rs 1,456.90 down 2.79%.
IFCI, Ispat Industries, Colgate, Reliance Reliance Energy were some of the very active counters on the exchanges today.
Mkts gain some ground; IT, realty stocks in focus
The markets have gained some ground on the back of some buying happened in IT, realty and pharma spaces. Capital good stocks were still reeling under pressure. BSE midcap and smallcap index have jumped back in green. market breadth was in positive with over 680 stocks on the advancing side and nearly 450 stocks on the downside on NSE.
At 11.40 am, the Sensex is up 135.83 points or 0.71% at 19227.79, and the Nifty up 30.05 points or 0.52% at 5781.20. About 1757 shares have advanced, 1283 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 420.20 up 4%, Infosys at Rs 1,695.25 up 3.49% and Mah and Mah at Rs 795 up 2.28%.
Top losers on the Sensex are Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,737.20 down 1.43%, HDFC Bank at Rs 1,637.80 down 1.16% and ICICI Bank at Rs 1,149 down 1.04%.
IFCI, Ispat Industries, Colgate, Reliance Reliance Energy were some of the very active counters on the exchanges today.
IT stocks have been in focus since morning today and the BSE IT index was up over 3%. Major gainers in the IT counters were Satyam at Rs 420.10 up 3.97%, Infosys at Rs 1696.35 up 3.54% and TCS at Rs 1044 up 2.22%.
Markets trading flat; IT stocks strong
The markets have given up some of its early gains and were trading flat amid volatility on the back of selling seen in the banking, realty and FMCG stocks. However, IT stocks were standing tall with significant gains. BSE IT index was up over 1.5%. Midcaps were reeling under pressure and the BSE midcap index was in red with modest loses.
At 10.15 am, the Sensex is up 52.30 points or 0.27% at 19144.26, and the Nifty up 6.35 points or 0.11% at 5757.50. About 1960 shares have advanced, 1070 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged on BSE.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Satyam at Rs 415.70 up 2.71%, Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 715.10 up 2.32% and Infosys at Rs 1,675 up 2.17%
Top losers on the Nifty are ICICI Bank at Rs 1,146.65 down 1.44%, GlaxoSmithKline at Rs 1,063 down 1.36% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,633.20 down 1.2%.
Mkts open with modest gains; bank, auto stocks up
The markets opened with modest gains on account of some buying seen in the banking, auto and realty stocks. IFCI opens with over 20% cut at Rs 80. Asian markets were trading mixed taking cues from the US markets.
At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 126 points at 19218 and Nifty was up 35 points at 5486. Major gainers in the early trade were SBI, ICICI Bank, VSNL, REL, Reliancce, SAIL, Deccan, Tata Motors, Hero Honda, DLF, RComm, Bharti and Tisco. IFCI opened with deep cut of over 20 at Rs 80 on account of Sterlite and Morgan Stanley stepping back from the stake buy. Deccan was buzing on the ews of merger with Kingfisher.
Asian markets were trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.72% or 108.50 points at 15,139.01. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.08% or 21.58 points at 27,007.68.Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.51% or 40.88 points at 7,973.43.South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,861.89.
US markets: The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 25.20 points, or 0.19%, to 13,207.27. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 1.98 points, or 0.14%, to 1,453.00, but the Nasdaq composite index gained 4.98 points, or 0.19%, to 2,601.01.
